Baby refusing to nurse...

Poor dd has a serious cold - congestion, wheezing. She's taking Pulmicort and Salbutamol to help her breathe. She's 5 months.

Today she seems to want to nurse but starts to cry as soon as I get her in position. It's been about 7 hours since she's had a good feed, and her diaper stayed dry for two hours (very unusual for her). Her mouth is wet, so I'm not sure if she's that dehydrated, although she has been feverish for the past two days (seems to have gone down now).

Her ears were checked yesterday - no infections. I don't think she's teething right at this moment.

What should I do? When do you start to worry about a baby not nursing? How long do you go before getting really worried?

This poor little thing is so miserable...

Thanks for any advice.

Maybe see if she can nurse in a different position? Or express a bit of milk and give it to her with a spoon or cup?

hope she feels better soon!

She probably can't breathe when nursing, I second the spooning some EBM for her, that way she doesn't feel like she's suffocating because of the congestion in her nose.

Thank you for your suggestions.... She did start nursing again, and has been having wet diapers. Yay.
