is anyone making announcements?

I tried so hard to print my own announcement cards for my son two years ago and ended up sooooo frustrated because I could not get the darn things to print out right on my computer/printer

I must have spent three days trying to find a (free) program online that would let me make my own card with my own photo and words and I found some that seemed to work until I tried to print them on my card stock and I was just never satisfied with the outcome...

anyway, I am toying with the idea of trying it again, : in particular because I haven't told anyone the name I have chosen for this baby and it would be cool to introduce her to everyone with a nice announcement card...

just wondering what y'all are doing?

has anyone ever done announcement by email? is that tacky?

I know Office Depot makes a very nice kit (including the card stock and envelopes and such) to make your own cards for a reasonable price...I think they are primarily for wedding invitations, but it could be easily altered.

We did an email announcement last time to let everyone know the baby had arrived, and then sent out actual announcements later (a few people got both, but it worked out well because a lot of our friends are really email focused while we don't email with others, like (older) family members so they needed a mailed announcement). We plan to do the same this time, though we go pretty basic on the announcements, just getting them printed at our local camera store-- nothing fancy for us!

I've used this service before for Christmas postcards. E A S Y omg.

Amazing Mail

Fully customizable; you can upload your own photo to be printed on the card or you can select from their clip art. With a little savvy, you can upload your address book and edit it on their site.

And the price is right.

I think this time we'll be using Purple Stork for our announcements. I've heard but good things about them.

Don't know if you like these but they're only .33 cents each:

I am sending out a text message first, so immediately close people can know right away (it's getting more and more common! I have already gotten 2 text messages about freind's babies this summer!) Besides, you can add photos and music to text messages now! Then we can tunr off our phones, not worry about calling a whole list of people right away, and enjoy the baby. Everybody wins.

Then, once I have photos on my computer I will send an email announment, just about to my whole address book. I did this with my 2nd. I do a nice background, a short birth story, photo, ect.

I am ordering 20 photo announcments from snapfish (about 15) for family who I know want something to put on their fridge, show off, or tuck away and keep.

My dh is going to make a picture montage of the baby and set it to music and burn it to DVD for our baby announcements. We only need about 20 of them. We did a video like this for Christmas a few years ago and it was pretty simple and not too expensive.

Since its baby #5 we wanted to do something extra special.....on one pays attention anymore. Its like, "oh you had another one, huh,?"

I do a lot of stamping, so I'll be making the birth announcements. I made them for my DD too. We do still have to call a big list of ppl right after the birth, but this way they will all get a picture too. Ordering announcements online from Yorkphoto, Snapfish, Kodak or Walmart is all pretty easy.

I made our announcements with cardstock and scrapbooking stuff. Let's see, it's a little yellow-and-white layered card, with fancy hole punches and a tiny cloth diaper (complete with pin!) on the front. I hand lettered a Bible verse, and on the inside we put wallet-sized photo tabs to hold a picture of the baby (which we'll order from Snapfish, Walgreens will print them up for $1/sheet of four wallets), and for the actual "announcement", we have pink or blue cardstock, and will print up a sheet of those on the computer, just plain text, and then cut them out with fancy scissors.

Does that make sense? I should really just ask DH to take a picture and post it. We went ahead and made these last month, so I wouldn't have to worry about running around and getting them done at the last minute. The envelopes are already addressed, just need to print up those announcement cards and wallet photos, stick 'em in, then sign, seal, and deliver!

Sams does the walmart one for cheaper. That is what we did for Benji. We may do the same, but I don't know. We have a great printer, but ink is so expensive. It works out, for the number we need, to just have someone else print them for us.

We did the little photo cards from snapfish last time - But I am thinking of using purple stork this time too - they look SOOO nice (but are more $$)...

Sort of. I'll send a big email a few days after we get home, and it will have all the basic announcement stuff, maybe I'll even use bluemountain.com this time, not sure. And a few attached pictures, of course. I do some paper ones for my relatives that don't use computers (my grandparents and 2 uncles). But I just print out a few pictures and type it up on msword, so it's nothing fancy, really.

this sounds most like what I imagine...I'm not opposed to ordering them from somewhere but I already have the card stock, the envelopes, the fancy printer, the ink...I just need to figure out how to get the words printed in the right spot on the card stock!

what program will you use for the text before you print it? MSWord?
