how to approach mw to take you on as an apprentice?

I am getting reallly serious about taking the plunge into an apprenticeship. I have gone over how to approach her in my head a million ways and times, so I thought I would ask mw's and apprentices how it works?! How do you ask someone to take you on?

When I did my apprenticeship I didn't know the midwife at all, read about the opening on the net. I just called her up. I wrote down a few questions beforehand, asked her, let her tell me what she was looking for. She told me to come in to clinicals the following Tuesday, and voila! I started.

If someone wanted to apprentice with me, I think just giving me a call would be fine, nothing fancy.

I agree with Maggi--

But I add that it would be good to have a few ducks in order, to present to her. Such as, do you have reliable transportation and childcare arrangements? Are there any other considerations of time/scheduling that need to be taken into account? Do you have any idea of what pace of apprenticeship you want--as many births as possible, as soon as possible, or only a few at first? Is there anything else that is important to you in this, that you hope or need to introduce upfront?

best with this!
