Okay, so the last several times I've posted...it was a rant after talking with formula feeding (because of "convience" or breastfeeding was "just to hard") "good patient" type of moms. Well, yesterday was a redeming day.
I met a new mother (baby was only 2 months old). She understood the importance of breastfeeding and seemed to soak in all the info I gave her!
She was from a family who's mother breastfed and her grandmother breastfeed. It wasn't really an option for her, it was expected.
She was amazed to hear all the benifits of breastfeeding and was curious about the fact that I still was nursing my 2.5 year old.
: I forsee a long bonding relationship between this mother and her newborn daughter.
: However, she had just had a horrible birth with one of the local docs that we know to stay away from. So we had a good long talk about her birth choices for the next one. How she would have to fight for her right to VBAC next time, how to find a good dr, and how to avoid all those unnecessary procedures. (Of course, told her all about how to find a doula and what we can do for her.)
We had such a god talk, one of the other moms thought she was a client of mine.
THEN, I walked about 100 ft and met another mother. After talking awhile, she's interested in becoming an apprentice midwife!
What a wonderful day it was to actually talk with real women who aren't birthing professionals, but understand the importance in breastfeeding and are being skeptical of the medical world.
Oh, and that's not all. I met a new client later that day. Boy, is she able to fight for her right to give birth anyway she chooses! Very well educated on her choices. Very confident. The docs won't know what hit them!
Anyone else have wonderful things to add?
