blocked tear duct, skin irritation?

Heyla!

So my newborn dd has a blocked tear duct. Not a big deal, I know, and I've been rinsing her eye with breastmilk and using a warm/damp cotton towel to dab off the goop. Oh, and the ped made sure I was doing the duct massage correctly.

The thing is the tears and goop drip out from the outside edge of her eye and the skin there is now red and sort of scaly due to the chronic moisture. I've been hitting that area with breastmilk too, and trying to blot it dry, but she's only 2 weeks old and I don't want to use something on her skin which could aggravate her eye...what else can I do to protect her skin and speed healing in this area?

Thanks!

Hi,

I know this post was many years ago, but my baby is having the same problem now.  She is 15 weeks old.  Did you ever find a rememdy for the irritated skin around the eyes?

Thanks.
