SOOOOO nervous...

My DS isn't acting like he is having a lack of milk...diapers are all normal, but I am always afraid of running out of milk. My mom while she is semisupportive of my EBF says often that I can't tell if and when he is eating enough. It's making me nervous because I had a dear friend who didn't know her dd wasn't getting enough milk and ended up starving her and and 3 mo she had been almost back to her birth weight. I know my DS is gaining weight but I guess what I need is a supportive..."YOU GO MOMMA!"

You can tell if your child is getting enough - track the diapers. Does your mother disagree with this? Keep a notepad if you need.

You are doing fine. Nurse your baby often, pay attention to your baby, follow your instincts.

If you'd like some extra reassurance, you can:

Take dc to a local baby store that has a digital scale you can borrow. Medela makes a nice one, but it is prohibitvely expensive to buy one yourself. Always weigh on the same scale when comparing weights. I would not weigh more than twice a week or you'll make yourself nuts.

Weigh used diapers on a little food scale to see the vast amounts that dc is putting out!

Wow Laura, I never thought of weighing the diapers!!

Thanks for the help. I know I am doing what is best it's just hard not to feel nervous when you get that pressure....

Neither had I, but then when ds was in NICU at 6 weeks to have pyloric stenosis corrected (yay laproscopic surgery!) they were doing that to measure his output and make sure he didn't get dehydrated.

I understand the anxiety. It takes a little time to gain confidence in your dc and your own body, but it works!

Of course you can tell if your baby is getting enough? Is he growing? Is he happy? Is he interactive and reactive? Is he peeing and pooing? Then he's getting enough! No need for numbers or measurement, just trust.

Oh, and, YOU GO MOMMA!
