So, my son is almost three, and its really hard to get his attention lately, or get him to listen when I need to say something really urgent (like, "Stop sitting on the baby!"). I feel like unless I yell, he just tunes me out. I get so frustrated repeating the same instruction gently over and over on deaf ears, and then I get frustrated and end up yelling. And then he doesn't tune in to what I said, he just stops because I yelled. He just seems to be in his own world these days, and any intrusion by mom to, say, stop him from injuring himself or his brother or get him to go potty before he pees all over the floor is just ignored. As are any requests to do anything at all, like come over so I can get him dressed, climb into his chair for supper, etc.
I've been trying things like, "We want to go to the park, don't we? We can't go to the park until we get dressed", which is logical, becuase I am getting him dressed to go to the park not using it as a bribe, but even so he doesn't really seem to care.
I just feel like my only options these days are either to yell, or to physically carry him to where I want him to go, and I have a 5 month old, so I don't often have two free hands to pick him up and move him, and its silly when he is perfectly capable of doing it himself.
Any brillian thoughts or suggestions?
