Surely a Doctor wouldn't do this right?

I read Manitoba Mom's thread about her friend and their older son. That is the third or fourth story I have heard from different people whose older son's were not given any or adequate pain relief after/during a circumcision. Many were parent's who chose not to have a circumcision performed at birth but were later told it was necessary.

One of the mothers whose son was 2 when she was told he HAD to be circumcised because of ballooning. The pedi uro told her if she didn't have it done he would get kidney damage etc. Then while the circ was going on she heard her son screaming. The pedi uro brought her son back out to her red eyed and pale and clammy. He then looked at her and said "You see! Do you see what you did to him! This is all your fault because you didn't have him circumcised as a newborn!"

Surely Doctors aren't doing these circs on older boys without anesthetic to punish the parents for going against the grain?

oh. my. god. :Puke :Puke :Puke :Puke

that made me feel ill thinking of my little one and how I'd feel if someone did that to him. I swear any doc doing that should be struck OFF. Ballooning is normal, right? WHY are these doctors so ignorant, and esp. the pediatric urologists?

Yes, ballooning is completely normal.

Why wouldn't they give older boys proper anesthesia?

And I can't believe that doctor said that the ballooning would cause kidney problems!

Sue, sue, sue!

I would likely have gone to jail for assault b/c I would have slapped that doctor right then and there!

When the foreskin starts to seperate and the little boy urinates the urine will occasionally build up in the foreskin and cause it to blow up like a balloon. Then the urine just comes out normally. It is part of the seperation process.

Any doctor that would do that is a card-carrying sadist.

Clear malpractice! Are there any lawyers out there who specialize in this area? I've heard of lawsuits involving boys who were older--whats the difference if they're just born--they still feel the pain.

Sheesh it just shows how big of fraud circumcision is and what a shame of the doctor putting the blame on the mom. When will doctors start getting a 'brain' and I go half the time what the heck is matter with those docs!

Would you mind if I shared this story with some people?

Get a copy of the medical records. The parents have this right. It should state what anesthesia was used, and what time it was administered.

If there is evidence that proper anesthesia was not used ... time to go after their license to practice medicine.

I remember reading this story when it was first posted I believe it happened in the '60s or '70s when people were less likely to question Drs.

It happened in 1986 to my brother. I didn't realize that his circumcision was completely unnecessary until I began researching circumcision after my own son suffered what he has.

This is how the cycle of abuse is perpetuated though. The story I was told by my mother about my own brother's circumcision led me to believe that I would somehow be sparing my son that pain if I had him circumcised as a newborn. That in combination with an absolute ignorance of any true knowledge about circumcision and its effects led me to have my own son circumcised.

You can still get the medical records. I think they are kept about 25 years.
