very new, very early news

We had an unplanned u/s yesterday after I had some spotting, and surprise! Two tiny babies! We are shocked and thrilled! And did I say shocked?

From the incredibly helpful reading I've done here today, it seems we've found out very early. I'm 7w along, as of last Sat.

Is there anything special I should be doing to help these guys in the first trimester? I'd love to know! I am so happy to be here!

Congrats on your twins! I found out at 7 weeks as well..I'd get Dr. Luke's book for nutrition. It's got some great stuff about what to eat, and weight gain for those who are pg w/ multiples.

I also recommend the book and wish I had known that early. Definitely protein all the way. Water is a biggy too.

Congrats!! :

Congrats!! We found out very early as well at about 5 weeks, and yes, a little shocking. Take care of yourself and listen to what your body tells you. It is not easy, I am almost 32 weeks and I have never been so tired in my life, but I can't sleep either! Read and get educated on the sub. and then try to relax and enjoy the fact that you will be bringing two little lives into the world. Good luck, keep us updated, everyone here is great.

I am going to go with the what everyone else has said.

Eat and gain weight. Lots and lots o'protein.
Drink water. Drink like you have never drank before!
Sleep. Sleep now, a lot, while you can!!
Relax and do whatever you enjoy now because you will be a busy mama to TWO adorable babes sooner than you know!

And CONGRATULATIONS! While parenting twins has been hard at times, it has been just as rewarding. There is nothing like two beautiful faces looking up at you with adoring eyes. : :

I also highly recommend Dr. Luke's book. I found out at 9-weeks that I was carrying two precious babies. They are now 4 1/2 () and the shock still hasn't worn off. Congrats on your WONDERFUL news and enjoy the ride!! :

Congratulations! And I know that exact same feeling upon learning of twins. Although we didn't find out until a 21 week ultrasound. And yes, some days it is still so hard to believe.

What everyone else said is great advice. One other thing that I can think of is that I started getting a lot more tired a lot sooner, and now at 34 weeks it is hard to get anything accomplished. So get your planning and preparation done earlier.

Also, I read Having Twins by Elizabeth Noble and it was excellant and came highly recommended by my midwife.

Wow -- thanks everyone!

It helped at lunch time to know that I HAD to eat --
I have had NO appetite in recent days, even on the days I'm not feeling so sick. My weight is down a few pounds, and not from being sick, more a complete aversion to all things edible...I'll just keep rereading these posts, and I'll have dh read them so he can remind me to eat.

...going to get some water now, feeling very thankful for all of you...

congratz on your twins! I also found out at 7 weeks and here I am almost ready to deliver! Enjoy your pregnancy and listen to the other ladies... they're smart

I agree with everyone else... Protein, water, lots of rest. But don't beat yourself up too much if your appetite isn't great. I was SO SICK with my twin pregnancy, I lost 17 pounds in 17 weeks before I was able to start gaining, and my babies were still over 7 pounds each at birth.

And congrats!

I know exactly how you feel. We didn't find out until 26 or 27 weeks (I forget now), but we were in a state of solid shock for a few days. The first couple of days, I tried to be thrilled, but shock was definitely the far greater emotion. I never wanted twins. Never (apparently both my mother and grandmother always wanted twin girls, which I got). However, I now love having twins (though I still think I got off easy--my twin girls have been easygoing, latched well from birth and sleep well--still much more challenging than one child, but not as hard as if my two boys had been twins).

Congrats! I also found out with my twins very eary because I had a miscarrige right before.

I 15th the suggestions: lots of protien, lots of water, eat eat eat. I gained 60 lbs with my twins. I'm still trying to take it off 3+ years (and 2 more pregnancies) later, but you really do need to gain a bit more w/ twins.
