So, the country fair last night didn't stay within the budgeted $25. We ended up spending $32.50 total, so we are over. It could have been worse though, I brought juice boxes and sodas so we didn't buy those there.

So $7.50 so far.

Nothing July 4th though

I'm in. We have cut way down since a few months ago but we seriously cannot afford to eat out at all this summer. I can safely say that *I* have not eaten out at all this month yet but I'm not so sure about dh, I'll have to ask him.

July 4: We didn't eat out but I did spend $ on beer, chips and dip, and a treat for the kids for the 4th. We didn't need it, though I'm enjoying the beer. I'm not giving myself a , although I know it was a better option than eating out.
July 5: (I think my dp had to buy dinner because a meeting was cancelled)

Monthly Total: $6.20

So far so good.

Something kind of stupid happened on the third, but I'm not quite counting it as eating out. I usually buy something out of the vending machine at work when I pack my lunch, which of course I'm doing every day. Anyway, I had my lunch and went to get something out of the vending machine, and I realized I had no cash at all. So, no pick me up snack for the afternoon. By the time I got out of work I was starving, and there's no ATM between work and the train, and I had to have something. So I go into a little convenience store, and they had a $5 minimum to use a credit or debit card. So I bought $5 worth of overpriced snack food.:

Then I got $40 from the ATM on the way home from the train, but you can't use $20 bills in the vending machine, and I haven't broken them yet, so no vending machine snacks all week.

Yesterday was hard because Sprogly and I went downtown to go to fountains and whatnot, and it was hot, and the cute little air-conditioned cafes were beckoning to us...

This is good, though! I just realized that I also haven't spent any money yet this month, and I also haven't driven my car for three days! No, I'm not doing a no-spend month, but maybe I'll try a no-spend week. One thing at a time, though. Maybe I can do this.

Tonight is going to be difficult. My kids are used to pizza (take out) on Friday nights and I really would love to not cook...BUT I'd really like to save the money even more so I'll just figure something out, I guess.

We've done well all week, even Dh! He hasn't eaten out at all, I'm so proud of him!

We had chicken last night and there's leftovers so I'll be making chicken salad for sandwiches tonight. It should be really good bc the chicken was super yummy (marinated and grilled). I think we'll eat the leftover pasta salad and cottage cheese as sides...I've got some beans in the pantry too.

To be honest, I don't remember the last time we ate out. I have worked in the rest. biz my whole working life and am totally grossed out!! I love to cook at home and my food is much tastier than most rest. food.

I wanted to share an inspiring blog I came across, Lunch In A Box. I am terrible about eating on the run, and I love these ideas for packing a lunch on the go.

Really wanted ice cream last night, and walked by a GREAT pizza place with the kids around dinnertime tonight, but bought nothing - instead the kids ate apples/bananas from the co-op on the walk home. I keep thinking about how the eating-out money we normally spend can be redirected to other priorities, and this is keeping me energized - hope the roll continues through the rest of the month!

I really wish I could take part. But my mom's coming out to visit. She lives on the east coast we are on the west coast. Anyway, I know we will be going out to eat at least 2x during her 9 day visit maybe more and while I know she will "treat" us to one of them. We will do the others. I'm just really looking forward to seeing my mom.

I think I could do it in august.

Well we had fast food today, we decided to get some KFC today so the total was $16 for both of us. Considering we normally eat out twice a week and it is now the 8th and it is our first time I am very happy.

Checking in, now that the DDs and I are back from our trip. My goal was to eat dinner out once, and expected I'd spend about $40 to feed the three of us. Instead, I spent about $40 on small splurges at fast-food places over the course of the five days we were on the road.

July 1: Zero
July 2: $8, Carl's Jr., hamburgers, fries, drinks., for 3 of us
July 3: On the road . . . $15, Subway, sandwiches, drinks, for 3 of us
July 4: Zero--spent day with relatives
July 5: On the road . . . $7, Carl's Jr., 3 chicken strips to share and drinks for 3 of us
July 6: Zero--spent day with relatives
July 7: On the road . . . $3 for ice cream cones for DDs, then $8 after got home, Carl's Jr., hamburgers, fries, drinks, for 3 of us
July 8: No eating out, but a horrendous grocery bill as we restocked the house after our trip!
