I am a craft-reject. I feel like a 98 lb. weakling whenever I go into the craft store. The only thing I can do successfully is distill homegrown herbs into tinctures, and harvest lavender for sachets, healing pillows and the like.
Any suggestions for an all-thumbs, visual learner?

I sew, knit, spin wool, felt wool on a somewhat regular basis, and other projects like pinatas, quilts, fish printing, working with clay, wreaths and xmas decorations and other things on a more occasional basis.

I'd like to learn to make soap.

I can sew, knit, crochet, make rubberstamp/collage cards, embroider, cross-stitch...

I have quite a few projects I'd like to do in the future & skills I'd like to learn:

Wreath-making (square lavendar wreath, a wreath made out of corks from wine bottles)
Felt boards
Reupholstering furniture
Quilting
Rubberstamping on walls
Cake-decorating
Making a black board (painting part of kids playroom with Crayola black board paint)
Home decorating
Bigger sewing projects like drapes, hotpads, clothes for kids...
Scrapbooking
Family tree (framed) wall-hanging

I'm sure I'll add more to the list as time goes on. Hearing other moms ideas inspire me.

tell me more about the DREAM PILLOWS please???? sounds intriguing!!

as for what i've done - i should probably list the NOT dones instead! LOLLLL

right now i do sewing (crafts and clothes) and quilting
machine embroidery
knitting
kids stuff (with my three year old)

i've done cross stitching; unskilled painting; decoupage; cake decorating

i do a lot of things of just designing/making a whatever i need without it being a specific skill like i made ring bearer pillows when MIL got re-married; i covered and decoupaged a can to hold chocolate pops for a baby shower.

i'm looking to try mosaics with daughter
i'd love to get into stained glass but have very specifically been avoiding it

Re: Dream Pillows
I take my lavender, dry it upside-down in my bathroom (we grow a LOT of lavender) and when it's all dry, I harvest the dried flowertops by rubbing them between my hands and collecting them in a pot.
After that's done, I sew the dried flowertops into a flat square of fabric, so that it's not too bulky. Then I add a little clary sage oil (not too much) and sew it up. I tuck the dream pillow inside the pillow case of my regular pillow (hence the flat shape) and drift away. . .
You can change the fillings of the pillow to suit your relaxation needs. Try going to http://www.wic.net/waltzark/herbindex.htm for suggestions of herbs and their uses, if you need a little guidance.

HI! I make sugared fruit topiaries as my hobby. I love to mak ethem and have gotten really bold in making the ones from 12 inches tall to three feet! The three footer turned out nice, but the hubby thinks "looks fine". lol

I love to make little guardian angels from potpourri. I make each one to resemble an infnat, child, mother and grandmother. THe little halos I make on the angels have a spiritual meaning and I have my precious angel baby to thank.

metalsmithing/blacksmithing, as my profession

I love crazy quilting, but don't have much time to do it right now. It love it because it's like sketching- no planning, completely spontaneous. I like the embroidery as long as I don't have to follow any rules with it. I'm obsessive about texture and surface detail.

My next project is to use my goofy collection of souvenir tea towels to make a crazy quilt bedspread. It will probably take me about 10 years....:

My dh says I specialize in half-finished projects.: :LOL
I love:
sewing anything from tailored suits to baby clothes and blankets
tatting
paper crafting (cards, boxes etc..)
drawing (pastels, pencil, charcoal)
refinishing furniture
sculpting
soapmaking
all manner of crafts with 3yo ds
I want to learn:
spinning/weaving
knitting (am working on it half-heartedly)
heirloom sewing
quilting

I'd better stop now before I take an untimely trip to the store!
I especially love reading about what all of you do!

i love this one!!!

hi, i'm new around here, and i couldn't pass this one up. i love sewing, weaving, felting, dyeing, and making paper and books. i actually went to school for it, how nice is that lol. i've tried making a quilt, with cyanotype (sunprint) pictures, but it didnt turn out the way i wanted because of the material i used, i think. i'm currently trying another one but this time with cotton. its one of a million projects lol. im also in the process of putting a blanket on the loom for ds, it was supposed to be a gift when he was born im also in the process of learning how to do natural dyeing. i would love to make my own soaps and to learn how to spin. im interested in making ds wooden toys, and i also want to make some diaper covers. i tried felting some but the wool is too itchy for us. anyone know what else i can use? thanks a lot, hope to get to know all of you soon!!!
