Sue Merrill is on trial for involuntary manslaughter and needs help. This trial will set precedents either way it goes, good or bad. If you would like information on how to help, financially or otherwise, contact Ellen at 307-635-1030 or email wyomingforbirthoptions@yahoo.com.

I don't personally but this woman was a midwife to one of my friends here, kiwirain. I would PM her or call Ellen for more info.

: They make her sound so irresponsible. I'm sure after 23-24 years she knew what she was doing. I mean, she would be aware of the risk factors to look for when a mom has ruptured membranes... I don't think ROM for 33 hours is a reason not to have a home birth, either. Especially not if she had no fever, was term, blah blah blah. People always want to point out the negative outcomes of home/midwife-attended births... but babies die in the hospital too.

My heart goes out to the family.

Something not mentioned in the article that a friend of mine who lives in Wyoming told me was that the baby didn't die at birth; she/he died on the drive across state borders home. The midwife had tried to talk parents into waiting a day until they drove home, but they were ready to get home. I'm not in any way putting blame on the parents...it just astounds me that the midwife could be charged with manslaughter in this situation. :
