Light Weight NON-Plastic Pitcher

I am looking for a large (64oz.) pitcher that is not plastic and not glass. Glass in that size with liquid in it would be too heavy. Any ideas?

TIA

It's a synthetic. To say every synthetic is plastic is like saying everything metal is steel.

But rather than argue the semantics of polymer chemistry ..

Steel pitchers that size aren't going to be cheap.

Here's one for $257.00

And here's one that doesn't show the price, but looks to be about a car payment.

You can get smaller ones, about 1 liter, with tops in restaurant supply stores, usually used as coffee decanters. They are probably around $50.

They make a lot of steel pitchers without lids, as you've already found, but it wouldn't be too hard to make a giant stopper out of a sheet of cork or natural rubber.

I've also found a lot of stainless steel pitchers that size where the only thing plastic was the lid.

Bamboo is an option, but I've never seen one that size. It should be very easy to make one if you have bamboo.

If you want to be real country, you can probably find a large metal watering can with a lid.

Try checking vintage/resale shops for aluminum pitchers from the 60s. The pitchers and tumblers in light aluminum (in brights and pastel colors) were a big fad then, and are pretty lightweight. And very cool in a retro way if you're into that kind of thing

We have a pewter pitcher. Received it as a wedding gift -- 18 years ago.

I'm curious to know what you would like to use it for -- and for how long you intend to store something in it?

Pewter is not supposed to be used for anything consumable, as far as I know...

You didn't say what you were going to use it for. Have you considered using a large stainless stock pot for storage and a ladle to transfer the liquid to a smaller glass pitcher? Kleen Kanteen does make a 40 ounce container: http://www.kleankanteen.com/2product...teen-40oz.html.

Pewter often contains lead.

The pewter pitcher we have is lead-free and IS intended for drinking. However, I must say, I don't use it much. It's kinda homely. : )

I'm using my acrylic pitcher for iced tea. I'm big into iced tea (green tea & chamomille) lately, so I've been looking for an alternative.

A restaurant supply place is a good idea to look for stainless steel decanters! Thanks for the idea!

Don't know whether this would work or not, but have you talked to local craftspeople about getting one made of ceramic? Or is that glass? Not sure, just thought I'd suggest it!

Iced Tea we are are big iced tea family and now with all I am reading about plastic... well I am trying to get away from it with our food.

Great idea about having one made but like I said, I want it really light weight. We make big oitchers of tea cause I just don't have the time to make it every day!

Thanks for all the ideas I am looking into the options!
