Nov 04 Happy July!

Hi all. Rowan is really making progress in potty learning. Several days in a row now she has one or more times asked to sit on the potty and then she pees. She's really pleased with herself!

Meanwhile yesterday we were at library story hour and the moms there were complaining about their untrained kids. One had a friend who did something "creative(?!?!)" --set her boy on the potty in front of the TV and "pumped him full of liquids," anything he wanted, pop, juice, whatever. I tried not to look horrified as I said "That would definitely backfire if I tried that with Rowan." Can't imagine how she kept that boy sitting on the potty??????

Here I go, bumping my own thread. Well, I can't think of anything momentous to report, though. Rowan put herself down for a nap without nursing the other day. But hasn't napped since.

Today I turned my back for a minute and she ran into the bedroom to wake up the baby. I found her squeezing Kiran's leg and saying "Kirany Kirany Kirany!" I said, "Why did you wake her up? etc etc etc" and mid-lecture I noticed that Kiran had already gone back to sleep.

Hey Rachel, I hope some others respond. I enjoy our monthly chats.

Glad to hear Rowan is considering the potty. Any more progress on that?

We had a good vacation. It was a bit too long for me and kind of hard on my body. I had a good bit of cramping on and off, but all is good now. I came home to no a/c and temps in the high 90's outside with heat index's around 110-115. It took them over 48 hours to get it working (not because they didn't respond but because there were so many problems, the problems likely cascaded since I was gone so long.) We were miserable. I'm still not entirely sure the problem is fixed completely since my house won't stay below 80 in the afternoon/evening. I'll probably call again today. It's not really bothering me though, after how hot it was over the weekend.

Bronwynn decided to quit wearing underwear and went back to diapers about 1.5 weeks into our trip. I was a little bummed, but understood that the stress of the trip and no routines was just too much for her. I haven't figured out how to get her interested in underwear again, so for now, we're back in diapers, and back to cloth since we got home. I'm hoping being back in cloth helps as well.

Guess that's it for now.

hi! i found you!

scheeli, how fun that you're gonna have three girls! i'm really enjoying our two, even though i was so convinced oona was a boy while she was in utero. oona is four months old now, so things have settled down considerably in our household--the girls can interact with each other a bit more every day, it seems, and they seem to really like each other. hazel brings oona toys, and oona watches hazel all the time.

let's see, what else--i had my first catering job last week since oona was born and it went well--she took a bottle in the nick of time, mere hours before i left for 11 hours, and drank like a champ the whole time. i have one more next weekend, then have a break for a little while. it's nice to be busy, but i'll look forward to just hanging out with the girls again, too. we have lots of travel planned for september: camping, staying with friends in tahoe, and maybe a plane trip down to san diego to see some family. whee!

oh and on the ec front: i've been peeing oona once in awhile, basically just when we can have nakey time at home or she wakes up with dry pants and i catch it in time--but on good days we're catching 4 or 5 pees! some days none, but at this point i just consider it to be for fun.

this is for hazel, who likes "the bouncy one" : : : : : : : : : :

Good to hear from jecaly. It's funny, I was awake around 5:45 this morning because of my dear Bronwynn and I actually thought of this thread and figured I would post to Rachel today to say "I guess nobody cares about our threads anymore." I hope we can get it going again. I'm glad things have settled down in your house and good job on the EC'ing!

Hi all, I suppose I should start a new thread but it's late and I'm in a hurry. Nice to hear from you jecaly! And alisha, thanks for asking about Rowan. She has made a lot of progress in pottying. She pees in the toilet pretty regularly, esp when we prompt her, but sometimes on her own. MIL bought her some underpants, and at first I was irked, thinking she's not ready for that, but she was SO excited about them and though she doesn't wear them all the time she hasn't had an accident yet. Yesterday she asked Kevin to put a diaper on her so she could poop. ?!?!?! She doesn't want to poop in the potty. After a while I decided that she's ready for underpants, it's just me, I'm the one who's not ready! Cause I feel like I'm bfeeding Kiran almost all the time now, I just don't know if I have the energy to manage potty for Rowan as well. But I suppose it wouldn't be fair to make her wait another 6 mos.

Glad your vacation was nice, and that you are well. That ac problem must be esp. bad when you're pg! I hope you get it fixed.

Welcome! We've been really slow lately and sometimes we are months late getting a new thread started, but please join the fun and help us keep up the chatter!

So, do you all think I'm going to cause life long issues in Bronwynn by more or less forcing the potty training issue? Here's the deal. She's very attached to her binky. She also likes her diapers. But she doesn't need her diapers. She went 2 weeks completely potty trained (decided to do that on her own) a few months ago and then decided she was done with it. I let it go while we were on our trip. And I let it go for the first few weeks we were back home. But yesterday, she woke up and decided she wanted underwear again. (I've been dropping heavy hints, but not pushing it for the last few weeks). She wore them all day without a single accident, even woke up dry this morning. But then she laid in bed and didn't want to use the potty and used her night time diaper. Then asked for another diaper instead of panties. I agreed, but was a bit frustrated by that. I've been trying to be really laid back about this and not push it, but I know she can do it and just doesn't want to. She wants to be the baby and she's a little distraught about the new baby coming, even though she's happy about it at the same time. So, on a whim I told her that she could be a baby with her binkies OR her diapers. She needed to be a big girl on the other, her choice. I knew she would pick her binkies and she did. I bought her some new binkies because we were down to one and it motivated her to use her underwear. I told her if she decided she wanted her diapers back she would have to give me the binkies back. Is this a terrible mom thing to do? She has used her underwear and the potty without fail the rest of the day today, even with a long shopping trip and then mall play this evening. What do you all think?
