Shohld I take her to the ER? (Cross posted in Toddlers)

Our 2 yo DD has been hit hard by seasonal allergies. In the past 4 days she has developed a hearty cough, runny nose, and the worst of it, discharging eyes to the point that her long lashes are constantly getting stuck together annd the whites of her eyes are bright red. She is somewhat lathargic.

We closed up the house, which is hard because it is very hot here right now and we do not have AC, are limiting her time outside as this only makes her symptoms worse, are giving her Clariton once a day and allergy eye drops as often as I can and she is just not getting any better.

I could not get her into the doctor on Friday b/c they were booked but I am wondering if I should be taking her to the ER or holding out and trying to get her in on Monday. Is there anything anyone could recommend for her home treatment beyond what we are already doing?

The eye thing sounds like pink eye. (an infection). Is there an "urgent care" or "weekend care" place to take her to?

If you happen to be lactating, you could put some breastmilk in her eyes.

I am thinking that it is not pink eye for the fact that DD#1 had the exact same symptoms to a lesser degree a few days ago. DD #1 got over it very quickly without treatment and DH and I have not contracted it despite wiping DD#2's eyes all day long.

We live in the middle of no where. It is either the emergency room or we wait until tomorrow.

i'd wait for tomarrow just to save yourself some money. imo the only thing they could do is give her a new med to try and waiting one more day isn't going to matter. also whenever dd gets sick, her eyes get goopy and stick together. just wipe it off with a warm wash cloth a 3 times a day or whenever it gets sticky.

I wouldn't worry about her eyes. Even if it is pink eye, it is most likely viral and the body will fight it off.

How is her breathing? You mentioned the cough. If she seems tight or wheezy or is getting more labored breathing then I would go to the ER.
