With all the talk about carseats lately on this forum it got me thinking when most of us stopped using carseats/boosters. So I'm just curious, when did you stop riding in one?

I was 12-ish.

My parents didn't use a car seat or booster for me or my siblings. Most of the time we didn't wear seat belts either.

I had one until I was 2 and the baby came along and needed it

I never rode in a carseat that I know of. I think we had a car *bed* when I was an infant. Basically a basket for the back seat, and just for a place to put the baby, not for safety so much.

Boosters didn't exist when I was a kid- or if they did, my parents weren't aware of their existence.

I was in a "toddler carseat" from the time I could sit up (no reclining infant seats either- just car beds that coudln't be secured very well) until I outgrew it. I was small for my age so I was probably around 5 when I outgrew the seat. Had I outgrown it at age 3 there would have been nothing bigger to "move up" to.

My mom always insisted on seat belts, long before car safety was popularized.

We rode standing up in the back seat of an AMC Rambler. I don't know what they did with us as babies.

good question! I don't remember ever riding in a carseat! and I definitly never used a booster! I will have to ask my Mom. I'll be 33 later this month.

I was in a toddler seat until I was 4, when it folded up on me.

I never did. My daughter was 8, though, and this was when the law didn't require it after 4. Most of her friends, did, too - they were more comfortable and could see better. She was 8 in 2001, FTR...

I don't think I ever rode in a carseat. My mom tells a story about me sitting in the front seat next to her when I was a couple of months old. I think I was in one of those infant seats that are sort of like the baby buckets they have now, but weren't made to strap into a car. Anyhow, some one ran a light, she hit the breaks, and the whole seat flipped over onto the floor. Thankfully there were blankets there.

I also used to go to a day care that would take the kids on trips in the back of station wagons. I rode in the back of my mom's station wagon aaaalllll the time, and I loved it. I wish my kids could do it, because it was so much fun. i wouldn't risk their safety, but there's certainly a nostalgia factor when thinking about riding in the wagon with the back window rolled down, or riding in the back of my uncle's pickup truck.

I'm 30. I was in a box in front of the front passenger seat until I could sit up. Then my sister got put in the box and I was in the back seat. We wore seat-belts as soon as we were big enough, though. Also we used to ride in the back of pickup trucks (though in the 90s we weren't allowed- we just did it on country roads).

I was born the year they started mandating car seats for newborns...1984.

I was in a car seat in the front seat from birth (my mom was worried about us choaking) and then I got a booster seat for a time till I was around 2-ish. I remember riding in a kitchen table-type booster seat when I was 3 or 4...but not sure if it counts because it was not approved for cars, it was just brought so I could see out the window.

I remember riding in the booster at age 4, but I just realized that that was only in my mom's car. In the truck and with my grandparents I think I stopped at about 2 or 3.

i'm 30 and i was in a carseat until shortly before my second birthday, when my parents' car was stolen with the seat in it. they didn't replace the seat when they got a new car.

We never had seat belts in the back of the car, let alone car seats.

I think I was 5.

I don't think they even had car seats back then. If a car had seat belts in the back seat, it was considered rude to wear them because it was a suggestion that the driver was a bad driver.

Oh how much we've learned!!

I was in a harnessed seat untill 2 days before I turned 3, and then the baby needed it and I moved into my sheild booster. I was in it till 4 or so.
