Aunt Flo and kids! - Page 2

My kids know all about it. Always have. I never made it a secret. It's always just been known about. It is a very normal part of life so why make a big deal about it?

Just build on the sex ed info your child already has. Since you have a new baby there is probably a lot of baby growing in mommy kind of stuff you can link the new info too.
This is almost exactly what I told my almost 5 year old dd when she asked. It was a good enough answer for her, and so far she hasn't asked anything else, though I'm sure one day she will.

I'd just wait for it to come out and answer her truthfully but as simply as you can.

My DS was worried when he saw blood, so I just reassured him that Mommy was okay and it's just something that ladies do. He was fine with that, but he'll tell everyone that Mommy bleeds like ladies do now.

I simply tell my kids that I have my period- it bleeds for a few days, and I feel kind of cranky, but the blood is nothing to be scared about. For a 4yo, you can explain that grownup women get their periods about once a month, unless there's a baby growing inside. Since there's no baby growing inside right now, the baby blood comes out.

I prefer privacy in the bathroom, but I've put in pads, tampons, and even my diva cup with an audience. How better to explain to a little boy what a vagina is! I remember DD1, around age 2 or so, putting washcloths into her diaper and saying she had her "berry bud" (period).

we are very open about using the bathroom, showering, etc in front of our kids, especially as we are working on potty training our oldest.

So it wasn't surprising when my oldest (a boy) made a comment about "mommy has a boo boo in her vulva", pointing to the pad.

Of course, he also asked me why I wear a diaper...

'course, this is a kid who told me that he as an "ova", that mommy has a penis, that daddy is a girl, and that when ds1 grows up he will nurse his babies from his breastests.

Does the "It's So Amazing" book show intact or circumcised penises?

Same as some of the above.

"It means Ima (that's me) doesn't have a baby inside her this month."

Only complication in the whole thing is my 3yoDD#2 thinks my Keeper is a toy (no, I've never let her play with it). We call it my "cup," and it's up on a shelf, and she comes into the bathroom and 90% of the time will immediately ask if I have my cup, do I need the stepstool to get my cup, can she see my cup, can she give her doll a drink of milk from my cup, etc., etc., etc. If she has to go to the bathroom, she still asks about my cup first.

So she knows when I've got my period very quickly because she always looks up at the shelf when going in the bathroom. When I do have it she does the cup-check, sees the empty shelf and immediately asks, "Do you have your cup, Ima?"

Oh, yeah, and she likes playing with the mama-cloth off the laundry racks, she yanks them off (they're kind of low to the ground) and tries to snap them together in a long chain (yes, I've got the kind with wings&snaps ) ...

We talk about periods and natural feminine hygiene products a lot around here.

I just checked...both. It explains that some babies have the foreskin removed and some don't, that both are 'perfectly normal' and that's all that's said about it.

All of the other pictures in the book look like an intact penis though.

Thanks for checking! I would be upset if I bought the book and it showed only a circumcised penis. I'm glad that it shows intact as the default. :
