My poor little scoby is sitting at the bottom of the jar and I thought it was supposed to float on the top? Dose any one know whats up with it? Also after fermenting for only 2 days its smells very vinagery, is this supposed to be whats happening?

Pic's of scoby added on post #4

nak - i had the same question the time i made kombucha and everything turned out fine. in a few days you should see a new culture forming on top.

yeah, when mine sinks to the bottom it makes a baby on the top. sometimes you can see an "umbilical cord" between the two, which i always think is so nifty.

if it's smelling vinegary after only 2 days it sounds like maybe it's fermenting uber fast, maybe too high a temperature or too much sugar?

I tasted it and it tasted not fermented yet this is after 4 days. I did cheat a bit an added 1/8 cup of sugar and that perked my scoby up to where its floating on top. This was DH's idea because he said it looked a little brown and dead. Its seems like one I feed my scoby it got to a more normal color as well as made it come to the top.

Here's some pic's of what it looks like now
