Opinions on quilt back

I am making DD a quilt for her new big girl bed. I am just making it out of a bunch of squares from all my old sewing projects. I was thinking of using a flannel for the backing fabric, thinking maybe it won't slide off as easy. What do you guys think?
I also don't know if it would be better to bind it by folding the backing fabric over/around the front or using separate blanket binding, any ideas on that?
TIA!!!

I think flannel would be wonderfuly cozy.

As for binding if the backing fabric has a busy pattern that distracts from the top I'd use a seperate binding. If it is simple and coordinates I would fold it over.

I think the flannel sounds nice and warm! Would this be a winter blanket or for summer as well? Would the flannel get too hot although I know nights in SLC can get cool so maybe not so much an issue. The only other thing I'd consider is that cheap flannel gets yucky really fast in my experience. Maybe find some, buy a smidge, and wash it a couple of times? Not that you have plans to use cheap flannel but after having had some go bad, I'm nervous about all flannel! Show pictures when it's done!

I will definitely post pics when I am done. I am realy pleased with it so far, I ended up with a bright, vibrant mix of colors and patterns.
Good point about the flannel, I will go check the fabric shops....
