I am doing some research for a friend who has no internet access.
She was diagnosed as a teenager, about 7 years ago. AF was regular for about a year (at around age 15 - 16) then stopped and now she only bleeds about once a year.
There is a history of early menopause amongst the women in her family.
She was diagnosed by a gynecologist professor who performed blood tests and a bone density test, but no ultrasound or ovarian biopsy.
She knows she has an estrogen deficiency (based on the blood tests). She carries excess weight around her mid-section and neck and cannot shift the weight from those areas.
Sorry, I know these details are a bit sketchy. I am having trouble finding articles that aren't full of medical jargon, or I have to pay to read.
:
Is anyone able to explain exactly what this syndrome is? The doc prescribed a combined hormonal contraception (for the estrogen, I am assuming) but she refused to take it for fear of weight gain. The doc also told her to come back and see him when she want to get pregnant.
She is interested in possible treatments (both natural and medical) and would like to have a baby in a few years. She is particularly interested if anyone knows if the phyto-estrogens in soy could be of help to her.
I would be so grateful if someone could help with some info I can pass onto my friend.
