I was watching the documentary about Rosie's Family Cruise last night. Basically she chartered a Norwegian Cruise Ship and invited gay and lesbian couples and their children for a week long cruise. Really a heartwarming and enlighting show.
In one of the scenes and group of gay male couples talking about the logistics of raising children and adoption, surrogacy... the conversation went something like this.
Prospective Dad: "I just don't know what to do from birth to 2 when they need the breastmilk, how do you handle that?"
Experienced Dad: "Oh, we just got our surrogate a nice pump and she pumped for us, worked great"
2nd experienced dad: "Yeah, ours ate a little too much pizza and brocolli, those were some rough nights" "It was really important that our daughter get the colostrum, you know that stuff is liquid gold"
All the dads laughing: "Now where else would you hear a bunch of men discussing the virtues of colostrum"
I thought is was so cool that given all the other hurdles they face in becoming fathers that breastfeeding was so important and such a natural concern for them. I mean certainly no one would fault them for giving formula and here they were doing all they could to make sure their babies got breastmilk.
