I love my DP!

Our pediatrician started giving us a hard time at our DD's four month appointment. She insisted that we start rice cereal by 6 months. We got the long "talk" from the pedi about how DD would be anemic if she didn't have the iron in rice cereal. I just smiled and nodded and we went on our way. I spent the entire car ride home griping to my DP about the rice cereal talk.

Then at DD's 8 month WBV the pedi told me that DD needed to be eating 3 solid meals a day. Then she went on to tell me that I needed to go to stage 2foods. She asked me what stage 2 foods DD was on. I smiled at her and said DD self-feeds she eats what she wants from my plate but she still eats mostly breastmilk. We don't do baby food. The pedi looked horrified and said I HAD to put DD on meat now for the iron. She said she needed three meals a day with meat. She then said at DD's 10 month visit she was going to be drawing blood to check her iron level since she was sure DD is going to be anemic because of her diet.

I told my husband about this conversation when we got home. He said "Ok, well you can let her draw the blood at the next visit. Then when it comes back that Ella isn't anemic you need to tell Dr. XXX that she needs to leave you alone about breasfeeding our baby. It is your responsibility to stand up for other mamas. You know to just smile and nod when she gives bad advice some other mama might not. You need to stand up to her so that she doesn't ruin some other mama's nursing relationship with their babe."

I him.

I know! I hear stories from other moms about how unsupportive their DP's were about BFing and it makes me sad.

I've heard him preaching to the guys at the firestation about how great breastfeeding, babywearing, and cloth diapering are.
