Noob bobbin screw up.

Ugh. So I took out the bobbin to re-wind it, and somehow I took out the casing, like the thing the bobbin case sits in. I think this is not supposed to come out. Anyone know how I could figure out to get it back in?

I was going to reply to your other post, but it'll work here, too, I guess. I personally would get the machine serviced before you start playing w/ it. If it hasn't been oiled in a while and the tensions are off, you could run into some very frustrating problems. (I think they might put the bobbin case back in for ya too )

I would ask the person servicing it for some basic instruction: how to thread it, threading the bobbin, etc. That way, you can *see* it being done (I find I remember things if I can see them done first, very visual learner).

Thank you Jenn, that's great advice! I wonder is it expensive to get it serviced? I'm on a budget right now!

What kind of machine is it? Can you take a picture?

I would think it would run under $100. When my mom gave me her '78 Singer Diana, she had it serviced for me and it was $60. He cleaned and oiled it, checked the tensions, etc.

She has a thread about it here w/ a pic:

Oy! $100 is out of the budget right now. Wowzahs. Maybe in a couple of weeks.

Here's a pic of my machine: http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...0/HPIM2568.jpg

I should get a pic of the bobbin situation, will do that later.

Is this a decent machine, anyone know? Like, worth $100 service? It was in our basement and I have NO idea.

Hm, I don't have as much experience with White brand machines but I do have a thing for older, all-metal machines. I've had 2 older Kenmores myself and they'll sew through anything.
I found the same machine for sale on eBay and it's what I expected:

Do you see the picture showing the bobbin?
What piece have you removed accidentally? The ring around the outside, which is held by the two black clips?
I have removed this piece myself by mistake - you just need to put it back in and snap the two black pieces over the lumps which are on the ring.

My bobbin casing looks like the one in the Ebay picture and it will only go back in in one way. The outer ring has a nobble on it which fits into a groove at the bottom of the casing and the side facing out is flatter than the other side, then the other bit with the spindle on it goes in any old how and you push the black clips back over it as the pp says.

I do take this out every now and then to dust it out and it always goes back in ok. I'll take some pics when dh gets home with the camera if that would help.

If you have the manual, it should have a diagram on how to remove and replace it. Sometimes, it's easier to remove the machine from the base and tilt it back onto your table so you can get a better view of the underbelly of it.
