for infants and toddlers to listen to real music? not dingy midi file junk that comes with most children's products but real music. drives me nuts. i have seen the bulky cd players that attach to crib rails but what about swings, car seats, strollers???

just asking because i am due in november and am making something for our little one and am a bit curious if other moms ever thought about it or would be interested in testing it out?

we are making a car seat cover that can also work on a stroller, bouncer seat, swing, etc that has built in soft speakers and a section to plug in a cd player or mp3 player. could be dumb, but man i want one lolol i dont want to listen to raffi in my car this time man, i want HER to hear it but um, not so much me

Hi, I'm a CPST. I think that sounds like a really great idea, but you should know that it voids the manufacturer's warranty (which means that they will no longer consider the seat safe to use) if any aftermarket products are used with the car seat.

What we were thinking is similiar to the buntings you can purchase that slip over the car seats. If you use a bunting it makes the warranty void on the car seat? I have seen several buntings that the top of the bunting zips off, leaving the bottom of the bunting on the car seat itself.......the bottom part is exactly what this would be like. Almost like the full body infant positioner that you lay in the car seat. Just curious here because I wasn't aware of things like that making the warranty void...? wow, learn something everyday!

I'm sorry -- when you wrote cover I was thinking like the actual padded cover that goes over the plastic shell.

The buntings that go OVER the car seat are fine, but anything that goes between the child and the seat, or the child and the straps (like the infant positioners) are considered unsafe. They could compress during a crash or otherwise affect how the straps fit, which could leave a child improperly restrained.

Oh no problem! Thanks for sharing this info.

The bunting you describe is specifically forbidden. You're describing the Bundle Me, yes? Not allowed. It goes between the child and the straps.

As for what you are suggesting...meh. You'll find most mamas at MDC don't bother with cribs

I have a radio in my car, I don't need something for the carseats

My kids listen to REAL music on the stereo system like everyone else in the family

Aren't some of the Recaros and Britaxes coming out with speakers in the seats?

Acceptable "bunting": http://www.babypolargear.com/infant_...at_covers.html
Nothing between the child and the seat or the straps.

Unacceptable "bunting": http://www.jjcoleusa.com/obm.php
Thick fleece between child and seat.

nope no kids music here just what we listen to is what everyone listen to PMing you i have a idea..............

I'd just be worried about making sure the volume for any baby-only speakers couldn't be too high... hearing damage is so easy and all these kids w/ ipods all day long are gonna feel it...

but yeah I returned the baby motzart cds we got and bought real rachmoninoff

yea, i have a radio in my car as well, but not in my stroller and nope, wasn't suggesting anything on my end for a crib, i don't use one either.

Actually, some strollers come with a CD pocket and speakers and i think the new Recaro maybe? Will have speakers in the car seat.

But really, we just use and MP3 player and either run it on the sound system in the car or put big stereo headphones, turned down low (I check every tiem) for DD. She loves it.

I don't care what the carseat manufacturer says, I can't imagine putting a strip of thick heavy fabric over an infant's face! At least on the "unacceptable" one, baby can breathe. The poor baby under cover #1 could suffocate in the backseat and no one even know it.

To the op, I would be concerned about speakers so close to baby hurting baby's ears. Mine just listen to the radio/CD player the same as any other family member.

That's really over the top. I personally have the "unacceptable" one and I love it but I doubt either would suffocate a child when used properly.

Ahhh, you must not live where I do. When the weather's -35 with the windchill, you cover the baby's face. Frostbite and all that.
Because of the side wings, the baby's mouth and nose aren't smushed into the fabric. It sits above their heads.

The cover also unzips over the baby's face once the baby is in the car. I don't see a suffocation risk.

The Bundle-Me puts a thick layer between the child and the carseat: the child will not be properly restrained and that could have serious consequences in a crash.

Yep, we just use the radio, or stereo. When walking (assuming they'll stay in a stroller, and are not being worn), we listen to the sounds of the neighborhood, or sing songs or whatever.

I would worry (as others have said) about speakers so close to baby's sensitive ears).

We have a few "kids" cds, but we mostly listen to "real" music, whether rock, classical, jazz or blues, or something else. Is it wrong that we all sing Red Hot Chili Peppers songs together?
