Do any one know what is the age for introducing solids in other contries. Especially if it is 1y.o

I have a family reunion in 2 weeks(in usvi) & I know I am going to here it all(ex. u need 2 give him real food, breastmilk is too light). They wanttd me start at 4months w/ cereal in a bottle: Anyway I have info for them, but since they like the "we started at 4m.o. and we/yall fine" statement. I will like to see if any other country introduce later and if they are "all fine"

I know I don't have to explain anything but I would like to know also. And ds will have his 3 GMA(GMA, great-GMA, & great-great-GMA: all in one house at some point) harrasing me.

Oh.. ds is 8m.o, 20lbs ?oz, 28inches and is ebf - he seems fine to me.

TIA

Sorry, I don't think you'll find anywhere first world. Even six months is better than the four months it used to be.

But try the tack that many allergy specialists recommend delaying all solids until a year (providing iron tests are OK) for kids at risk. I don't know where you'll find supporting info for that, but it's definitely a common recommendation.

You could fake it, too. Tell them he's already had his solids for the day, if you just want them off your back.

Good luck, I had the (screaming) 4 vs 6 months argument with a morbidly obese, rheumatoid arthritis, ovarian cyst, asthma ridden formula feeding and fed aunt whose kids are all overweight too over the Christmas dinner table. Yeah, sure, you're fine :

I just make sure I now send them pics of her eating olives and parmesan. Poor child, doomed to be a picky eater forever because I denied her rice cereal and pureed pumpkin for four months

Why not print out some info from kellymom.com and hand them out if the subject comes up? Here's the page with links on delaying solids: http://kellymom.com/nutrition/solids/delay-solids.html

I will be staying w/ my parents so I cannot fake it. And they would be wanting to see him eat anyways or they wouldn't believe me. Not to mention my mothering wanting to show me how to make custard for him - No thanks!! Even if it is not 1st world I don't mind knowing those other countries. My family is not from a 1st world country but I guess they have adopted most of their lifestyle since moving.

Thanks

WHO, UNICEF, AAP, and pretty much every single medical establishment recommends exclusive bf for 6 months at a minimum. A lot of money is spent trying to encourage women around the world to not supplement with water, juice, etc, so just because women are doing things a certain way in other countries, doesn't mean what they are doing is safe or healthy.

Hope this helps.

Some great suggestions here, I just wanted to wish you good luck. My MIL just bought DS some baby food, when I do feed him, he is one btw, I make what ever it is he is eating. Plus his father bought a bunch of baby food a long time ago that he has still not eaten, why give him bananas from a jar when I can give it to him fresh? Anyway, MIL was always asking what does he like . . . . and I knew it was because she wanted to buy him baby food. So frustrating, to be honest I haven't even looked to see what kind they are. Sorry about that . . . truly wish you the best of luck with the whole situation.

DS2 didn't start any solids until 10 months. We tried around 6 months and shouldn't have. He just turned 18 months and is just starting to eat more solids.
