WTG! I drink coffee twice a day and it is usually not a problem for me. The only thing to watch out for is that coffee is dehydrating, so I try to make sure I drink a lot of water following coffee. I like to have a cup of strong coffee, let it sink in for 20-30 mins and then go do a super fast mile run!

Soooooo...... I'm coming home with a new bike tomorrow.... ACK! I just went to visit the bike shop and talk to them about trading in my mountain bike and what sort of options are available for me as far as a road bike goes. Well, there was a purty Specialized road bike with areobars that is last years model and discounted. I can get about $200 for my mountain bike. After riding the road bike, getting it kinda fitted to me... I was hooked. I really don't have the money, but I can squeak it by if I eliminate coffee shops and dining out for awhile So, I'm getting the official fitting of the bike tomorrow morning. I'm so excited and nervous! Road bikes are a whole different beast than the mountain and cross bikes I'm used to riding. The areobars seem awfully dangerous! But I'll have a month to get used to it so I can use it in my duathlon, so it should all be fine.

wemoon, a Specialized Allez 24 is my road bike. I it. Enjoy!

OK, I get really far behind on reading Runner's World. The freaking September issue came today and so I started on the July issue after dinner. For those of you who have it, turn to page 29 (or click here). That dude? Is this dude:

It looked like he was getting pics of the mile markers...which were just numbers on a little board, nothing fancy. One time I'm pretty sure he took a picture of a For Rent sign next to a row of mailboxes. Then when he would resume running, I'd hear these feet just absolutely slapping against the pavement. I would've let him pass me just so I didn't have to listen to the slapping, but he kept stopping to take pictures! I finally lost him at Doozy Hill and didn't see him again. Interesting.
I was like when I saw his picture, knew it had to be him, looked him up in the race results and sho' nuff there he was. Now I have to actually read the article - I think I'm about to learn something.

RR - I ran 3 miles last night, pushing the jogger. Wed. is supposed to be my speed work day, and since I still haven't decided on a training plan, I just decided to run faster if I could, the middle mile especially. I ran the first mile in 9:40, the middle mile in 9:20, and the last mile in 10:08 to cool down. It felt comfortably hard, especially with little dd trying to ask me questions as I ran the hilly part of the run during that 9:20 mile! No running tonight due to ds's band concert, but will try to run Fri, Sat., and Sun. I'm behind on my yearly running goal of 720 miles. I was at 359, or just 1 mile short of half at the end of June, but I'm way behind for July at only 29.2 miles so far. I don't think I can catch up (unless I run RM's schedule for the week!) but hopefully I can catch up again the next few months.

NRR - I posted some personal stuff on the yahoo group and I'd love any response I can get from you guys, just didn't want to put on a public board. Please stop by and comment if you can.

eksmom - looking at your bike while camping made me really think about biking more. I don't think we're in a position to get decent road bikes in the next year or so, but down the road I'd like to. Was that picture taking guy the one who runs all year round, all kinds of races, and carries his own refillable water bottle and a camera?

wemoon - how exciting about your new bike! Can you post us some pics?

HBM - how is Lydia? I feel bad because I realized when I got home that I had some cleansing pads that have numbing solution in them in my first aid kit. Wish I'd remembered they were there to give them to you. Is she at least still enjoying having a splint?

kerc - so jealous on the SnB! I get lots of job offers in the mail from MN - you'd invite me if we moved there, right? We were trying to remember this year, is that Gander mtn. camp chair I picked up last year yours? I was thinking it was Geo's so brought it camping again this year, but it's not hers. Happy to give it too you if you ever wander through IL!

Howdy Dingos.

Sorry to be MIA. I came home from camping and not-so-promptly succumbed to food poisoning. The timing is all wrong for it to be something I ate either camping or on the way home but I am baffled as to what it was. Nasty though and I am only just feeling marginally normal today. (geo--no coffee for 3 days. That's sick, right?)

Plady, I am so sorry they put you on your back. The nurses kept doing that to me while I was in labor and wouldn't take the monitors off because they couldn't get a clear 20min tape of R's heartbeat. I felt at the time that I couldn't argue with it in case she was truly in trouble, which I don't think in retrospect she ever was. Can Allison assist with keeping the monitor in the right position if you move a little? I wish I'd had a doula with my hospital birth to do that for me. All I wanted to be was upright, and I think my big girl needed that to have room in my short torso to turn. In any case I feel for you, the strict hospital birth is Not Fun.

OK, that bit used up what energy I have left today. More later, I hope, I'm missing you all something fierce.

I'll have to go look for it on the stand. I have a subscription coming, but I just ordered it a week or so ago and it won't be here yet.

Yep, that's the one. It had to be him - I mean how many Asian guys his age run marathons in spandex with a camera?

It's from the July issue though, which may not still be out. In any case, I found it online.

Eksmom! I was just reading that issue of RW on the subway tonight. I had read it before, but didn't know if I got to all of it and was pressed for time, so just grabbed it. I read the article about that guy (Nishi?) and while I don't feel like I read it deeply enough to fully let it penetrate, once I realized that I wanted to know more, I found that I was really moved by his attitude and want to go back to it to see if I can get it more. Also, I thought of you because that issues deals with runner's knee.

No running today, but did bike about 8 miles on my crappy bike. And did serious heart rate increasing cleaning, so I figure I am good for today. I got new shades a a cool hat. Not cowboy, but better.

Oh, and I just have to say, there seems to be reason to be on a number of people, don't cha think??

Found out tonight at my group therapy that one of members from quite some time ago (she was only there for about a month) died of a probable suicide. Even though I was not close to her, or seen her in a long time, it is still hard, ya know?

So I am off to bed and do some light reading.

Hi mamas,
I'm way behind on personals. And must confess - no run today. : Just couldn't make it out of bed at 6 this morning, then got home from work, and chose take-out Chinese and a cold beer over a run. I had a terrific 6 miler yesterday, tho', on a forest road which follows a small river up into the mountains. Up, up, up for 3 then a really fun downhill.

My house is a disaster. We've got about 50% or more moved out, but dc have taken every stinking little toy they own and scattered them all over. It's a nightmare. I'm working tomorrow too, so won't get anything done. And I still can't decide whether to race on Saturday. 5K (or maybe 10 if I'm motivated) with 3 1/2 hours of driving, versus an 8 mile LR and getting everything finally moved out. It doesn't help that there really aren't any more local 5 or 10Ks around that I can do in the next month, plus this race is so tiny and I know the organizers (and will feel really guilty). I guess I'll see how I feel tomorrow night.

Plady, . I love the idea of you travelling to Dr. Jen's hospital! I think there will probably be small things you can do to increase your comfort, like frequent potty breaks. I remember a laboring woman when I was a med student at a really uptight hospital, who threw off all her clothes, got down on hands and knees, and wouldn't let the nurses get near her to strap her down!

Megan and Balancin1, hope you're feeling better soon.

Moonshine -

Wemoon - suh-weet bike!

I'll probably go off line this weekend when dh packs up my 'puter. What ever will I do without my favorite addiction?!
Wemoon, sweet ride, babe. You won't regret grabbing the deal when you could. I hemmed n' hawed a bit over my road bike purchase (used 2000/01 Bianchi Reparto Corse Daytona), but you just can't pass up getting $2500 worth of bike for $700. Especially when it's exactly the right size for you and comes with some major previous owner mojo. She was one hot tri mamma!

Paige/Taos -- I am feeling much better, thanks! I think it was like a PP (too lazy to look back) said -- dehydration and electorlytes. Some Emergen-C, calcium tabs and water and food helped a lot. I feel pretty much normal, so I am off to Bellingham tomorrow! And the bike is coming with me! One of my girlfriends is bringing her cyclocross Bianchi, so we will let the girls play together...
Eks- That is so cool you saw him in a race! I loved that article, I want to be him and carry my own water bottle. My inner tree hugger cringes when I see all the waste from races...(and then think about that times all the races happening all over the world) I love to smile and say hello to people when I run and the few times that I've ran in a race and I love to see other people enjoying the moment too... that is a big part about what running is about for me, and I think that is why I liked that article so much!

Chelsea - I hope you feel better soon!

Plady - I've been thinking about you all day after reading your account of the hospital

Wemoon- congrats on the awesome bike!

Aquacates- been thinking about you too

Heading up to Ohio tomorrow to see the ILs, and HOPEFULLY Wendy and maybe Janessa too!! : I really want to meet my first real life dingo!

I'm hoping to do a lot of running and a date nite w/ DH while the ILs babysit!!!
Hey Balancin1...hope you feel better. But I wanted to share with you that 1 in 4 cases of foodborne illness is caused by poorly washed hands. (Not necessarily your hands...) Sorry. Project I'm working on.

Serious time/energy problems here. Wanted to run this AM. I'll get back into the AMs. Just don't know where that energy went.

Going FT at work in a couple weeks. I'm actually hoping that helps me find better balance. Psychologically, at least, it should help.

I've been staying away from soda, too...but I need to switch from the diet drink mix to just plain, unsweetened tea. Means I have to make the stuff, though...Can I just throw a tea ball in a pitcher and leave it in the fridge? Or does it have to sit somewhere warm? That kinda grosses me out. And boiling water for iced tea...well, you know.

And as for coffee...I drink half espresso, half hot skim milk. It's my breakfast. I drink no coffee at work, and once in a while I'll have another espresso drink in the early afternoon. Addicted? Yes.
while we're all confessing our beverage addictions, i'm addicted to green tea. i make a small pot first thing in the morning, but usually only drink enough to fill my to-go cup so i make another pot in the office. has to be a 'pot' of tea with loose tea leaves and no black tea because it turns my stomach. And no herbal teas unless it's the afternoon - i need the caffeine!

that's all i drink. green tea, water and the occaisional seltzer. and beer. dh is currently addicted to Vitamin Water, which may as well be soda.

morning abs are done. 90 bicycle sit-ups, a bunch of random ones, two minutes of planking (not in one stretch), some pushups (not enough to be proud of) and finished off with a stretching session.

for those that are wondering AF hasn't yet arrived. This will be day 30. I figured out that it started on the 28th last month, so am I counting it right? And no PMS mood swings, insatiable hunger or incredible sweet tooth cravings that I normally get before AF. But yet nothing funny is going on either, in fact i feel great rolling into my 19 mile race tomorrow

oh well. i have a work project that i enjoy to do today, so i'm going to go and try to concentrate on that and in the back of my mind work up my mental strength strategy for tomorrow's race.

Hi mamas, long time no post...

MY addiction is coffee for sure. Tall non-fat latte extra shot any morning I can get it. Then half a pot of regular dark black coffee. Gave up soda, diet and regular in April. Sometimes I still crave it but ultimately I know it is better for me. No artificial sweeteners also anymore.

Things are maybe settling down here. Made it through the weekend with the ex-inlaws. Some tears, some grumpiness, but ex got most of the stuff out of the house and he was actually very pleasant through the whole experience. Looking towards setting up regular visitation, routines etc now that he seems to be on the right track. It's a good thing for all of us.

Did my 75 mile ride with J last Sunday. The most fun I've had exercising for 4+ hours for sure. Next weekend is the 100 miler. I also finally got my butt in gear and signed up for the tri on August 12th(olympic distance!). I feel completely prepared for the bike and run. Swim not so much but I have next week off and a commitment to hit the pool like crazy. Today I think I might actually feel excited about things.

Hoping to sneak in a run in the evening. Thinking about you mamas!

Oh good luck with the packing! I hate that part of moving! I'd almost be tempted to do the race knowing that eventually the packing will have to be done, but my more organized side says, pack it all up and then relax!
That image of the naked woman on hands and knees could be me for sure! I don't think I've spent more than a few minutes during labor even sitting on my butt, let alone lying down, and that was only in a tub!
Last night I had this dream about meeting some hot shot OB who had a new contraption for women to labor and deliver on. Basically it was a slab that she was tied down to, and then, when labor didn't progress it had this automatic laser thing that would just go ahead and c-sec her! All without anyone needing to be there!
I think I might just surf by expedia.com with DrJen's suggestion in mind! :

Calico - Have fun! I hope you do get a little dingo meet-up time too! Don't forget we want pictures

Hey, does your company use Zogby polling? I just got a poll about hand washing last week. After I answered that I'm more or less obsessive about it because of the spreading illness thing it said I didn't qualify for the rest of the poll! Um, could they be looking for certain answers???? Nah, no one ever tries to skew data to get a certain result! What was I thinking!?
As for tea (red raspberry leaf of course!), I usually brew a smallish amount and make it very very concentrated, then I dilute it as necessary and take it in my water bottle.

Maybe AF is just generously waiting for your race to be over? Could happen!
I am so impressed at your ab work, I hope you don't mind if I try to emulate you in the coming months!

2BBs - So glad you made it through that weekend, it sounded excruciating. Between ex's exit, J, and your upcoming tri I'd say you have lots to be excited about! I'm so happy for you!
DrJen - Actually I did just mapquest it and I see that I before we moved down here I lived a mere 50 miles from you! In an equally small town! What a small world!

I think the tea is supposed to get warm to brew properly. You can just make sun tea, which is so super easy.. Put cold water & tea ball in a glass jar with a lid and sit it in the sun in the morning. At the end of the day take out the tea ball and put the jar in the fridge. Ta da! I love sun tea.

I miss .

Mandy: : & good luck on your race tomorrow!!!!

I ran 4 in sprinkles last night with the mid-to-biggish-sized dog. I kept wishing it would really RAIN, but it never did. The whole run home I got to watch the sky light up nearly constantly, though. You couldn't see the actual lightening, it seemed to be above the clouds, so that only the clouds would light up. And there was little to no thunder. Kind of fun. I also walked gigantic dog a couple of miles, so it was a good night.

I was supposed to lift weights and do abs, but ended up watching Knitty Gritty instead. (Yes, I could have done both of those things while watching Knitty Gritty, but I just sat there on the floor.) :
