Risked out for homebirth VBAC?

I am curious about the opinion of the birth professionals over here. I live in an area where it can be tricky but not impossible to find a homebirth midwife, and all but one (that I know of) are practicing illegally. I had interveiwed with one I loved, and was just informed that she & her partner think it's too risky for me to do it at home and aren't willing to take that on. I am totally devestated as I have NO trust in OBs and hospitals, but I am also not interested in putting the baby at higher risk "just" to have my homebirth.

Here's the deal. I had a C/S for "failure to progress" : a year and a half ago. (My kids will be about 23 months apart when this one comes) It was followed by an external wound infection and also a hematoma on the inner part of the scar on my uterus. The hematoma caused hemmorahging and blood transfusion, rehospitalization and heavy duty antibiotics. (They did a a hysterosalpingogram a couple months later and everything looked clear.) I have never even heard of anyone else having such a thing. My OB at the time had heard of it but never seen it.

Anyway, based on this history, after reviewing my medical records the midwives are unwilling to take me on for a homebirth. Anyone have another (or the same) opinion? Would that have risked me out in your opinion too? I'm really curious.

The infection and hematoma make you at greater risk for rupture. A lot of midwives would risk you out but for me, it depends on the individual woman's health, determination, acceptance of risk, willingness to transport, etc.

Yes, I understand that. But how much greater of a risk? And for instance, what is that risk compared to the risks of an ERC? It's not like my choices are a HBAC with MWs vs a competant OB I trust in the hospital.
