Mystery Stole - Page 3

FYI to those buying Bare, and Haydee will confirm this I am sure. This is a beast to dye, and sort through tangles. If you are dying, be careful! And well, if you are hand winding a center pull skein? Set aside a whole evening.

Granted, I wound straight from my mboy, winding from my swift probably would have been a tad easier. But it was so worth it, this is beautiful stuff to work with, and I have been really impressed by the quality of the 3.99 hank of merino. It's feels and behaves like merino but has almost a bit of sheen to it as well. It's quite nice.

Thanks for the fyi...we'll see if I'm brave enough to try dyeing once it arrives! And I think I'll sneak down to the basement to see if I can scrounge up a few scraps of wood to have dh make that swift... Of course that's added to his project of lucet/knitting mushroom thingie (can't decide if I want the 2 pronged one or the more "tube" style...?).

I know, I think the tube style would be more useful, but I love the timeless look of the lucet. I have been asking for one forever. (Don't ask me to make my own, ain't happening.)

Woohoo! You are doing great! I love your pics.

I am still not yet finished with clue 1. I hope to get that done in the next couple of days.

Thanks! Maybe I will work really hard between today and tomorrow and actually be on target for the next clue. Which just flabbergasts me, btw, I had no aspirations of keeping up like this!

What would be great is if I was way caught up and ready to go the week HP came out, because I am SO going to be reading...

Mind if I join as well? I'm a little behind... only on Row 70 (and she just sent out the next clue! I'm falling SO behind now!!) I joined on the 4th, but didn't get to start until the 7th. So in fairness, I started a week late too... I have details of my progress on my blog and ravelry, but to make it easier, here's a picture of what I've got so far:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/woobieswool/781620402/

I'm using some handspun laceweight I finished a month or so ago (using Zen String Pomegranite merino/bamboo I got from her fiber club) and have been searching ever since for a "worthy" pattern. LOL. I finally found it! I know, not one of the recommended colors, but oh well!

I can't wait to start looking at the newest section later today (I usually wait a while to get it since I'm behind right now anyways!)

Oh, to help keep the yarn from getting tangled, I usually do at least 5 ties and "weave" it back and for like 4 or 5 times instead of just doing a figure 8. It takes alot longer to put them on, but it saves SO much time in the end b/c it cuts down tremendously on the tangles. That, and if you don't mind one little speck of white, when I tie it in a knot at the bottom, I include one strand. This helps keep it in place a bit better. So if you have a swift, you know where the bottom is.

nak-

Welcome mom2cassie! Your ms3 looks great! I love the color!

So, I am not using lace weight. I had a bunch of fingering weight here and I used that. I finished chart a and was happy with it yesterday but now I am not. I really think I need lace weight. It just looks so much better in the lace weight! All of your pictures are gorgeous! I think I am going to frog mine and order some of the bare Bella Babe linked to.

Thanks so much! I was looking at yours and it looks really nice! Why switch? I don't know how much lace you've done before, but just remember that it NEVER looks the same unblocked as blocked. This is a Fingering weight Icarus (they are usually knit using lace weight like Zephyr and looks like this -- http://mimknits.com/shop/index.php?m...roducts_id=195 ):

http://woobieswool.blogspot.com/2007...rus-shawl.html

and here is a better example b/c it's shows before and after. This is unblocked:

and this is blocked:

http://bp3.blogger.com/_exGQiIK1xLg/...h/130_3053.JPG

(Don't mind the blocking job -- not my best... I've improved since then! LOL)

Try pinning out the section that you've got and see what you think then...

Trust me, if you saw my MS3 w/o the pins right now, it looks like a tangle of yarn rather than a shawl! (I'll take a picture at some point if it makes you feel better... LOL)

HTH!

LOL, I have been sitting here thinking I may do a second on towards the fall in some white or black fingering or DK for a different look. lol

I am only at 140ish. I was trucking along doing great and then last night had to tink to fix an unknown problem and it got so messed up. Dropped stitches, off stitch count and looking at each section I couldn't tell anything that was wrong.

Reminds me of a tshirt I was to make "Friends don't let friends drink and tink..."

So this morning I fixed it. Not perfectly, the design is still a bit off but the main lines created by the yo's are correct so I can live with that. I am back on track but not ready for clue three yet. Oh well. I knew it was too good to be true.

Lea,

Thank you so much for taking the time to post all of that! I love your Icarus!

This is my first lace ever so I really needed the before and after blocking visuals.

Ok, maybe I won't frog it. I appreciate the encouragement.

Mom 2 Cassie, love your Swallowtail!

DS calling me...

Thank you so much for the complements! And I'm so glad I was able to help you Aurora. Welcome to the world of lace knitting. It is VERY addictive, especially when you block that first project :-D As you can see, the transformation it goes through is amazing... it's even cooler when you do it yourself and see it occuring as you block!

Enjoy!

Hmm. Cyberspace ate my post.

Oh well. Clue # 2 is finished as of last night. I took a break rather than work on lace at midnight and make more mistakes again.

Pics on my blog!!! And some cute ones of my boys too.
Looks awesome -- and those are some incredibly cute kids! *sigh* my yarn hasn't arrived yet...and my blog is down AGAIN. dh's server is having all sorts of problems & I'm going into serious withdrawl! Ah well...

PS Your daughter does NOT look like a boy!!!! I love her haircut!

Wow. I got alot done, seeing as though I was on like row 153 or something Saturday night.

I am now on row 176. I purposefully spent most of Sunday morning knitting away at it. now I have a minor 6 rows a day to knit through thursday to keep up. Which is good because Friday night I plan on watching Harry Potter, buying the last book, and ... um... reading it.

OT- Apparently the comment regarding my dd's hair was "A. It looks like a mullet."

Nice. thanks. No worries, you do a great job crushing her spirit. Good one.
