Anticipated family reactions

Anyone else nervous about telling family? This will be our second, and while we're thrilled, I know my family will second-guess the timing. Dd and her little brother or sister will be two years apart. It's actually a little bit bigger spacing than we'd hoped for, but I think it'll be perfect. As I said, we're thrilled.

I think family will also be irritated because, while I have a good, stable job and dh is a SAHD (actually, he just started some part-time night work), we have struggled to make ends meet. We just barely have enough each month. But I have fertility issues and I know that waiting means we're unlikely to have more children. We certainly have no regrets. I cannot imagine life without dd.

Anyway, just looking for some general venting and, ya know, hearing other peoples' neuroses with their families. I want them to be happy for us, but I know it'll be . . . a bit strained. To make matters worse, I know my SIL (my brother's wife) really wants to start a family, but they've put it off because my brother is younger than she is and because of financial reasons (unreasonable IMO, since it's involved buying a very expensive house in a very swanky neighborhood and two six-figure salaries for years). To each his own, but more and more I get the feeling she is unhappy with the choices they've made and how long she's had to wait. She'll be 35 this summer . . . in fact, I'll be in town for her 35th birthday, and I'll probably be showing by then. I don't want to make her feel bad, but I can't be responsible for their choices, either. They definitely disapprove of our choices, but we're happy and I don't think it's any of their business. It was hard to hear my brother say "I don't know what to say" when I called and told him I was pregnant last time (I responded, "You're supposed to say 'Congratulations!'" in my most cheerful voice).

Anyway - FAMILY!

Please vent/share here.

My mom is not going to be a problem, but MIL always has an opinion. She seemed more shocked when we told her about ds, and she has said many times that she does not think we should have any more children. I get very sick while pregnant due to thyroid issues, but I feel it is worth every bit of it. I'm already a stay at home mom and we still have everything from ds, so I don't see us having to struggle for supplies. And if this one is a girl I'll be happy to dress her in blue, bugs and trucks

My dad also has a little girl that is Ds's age so I'm sure we will get some hand-me-downs from them. MIL will just have to get over it. She knows I'm wanting more children and I'm always talking about "when we have another" so I'm sure she is not under the impression that we are stopping here... hell she has been looking for bunk beds for me

My family will be less than thrilled....as usual. We are very different people and they have a very "get all you can and keep all you get" sort of mentality so their focus is always on material things. The fact that we have 4 already is baffling to them and they are less than helpful even though they are only 10 mins from here. Can I keep it from them til after the birth? Show up at their house like "what????"

I know my parents are going to be thrilled, especially my Dad who has been bugging me about another so he and my Mom each have one. I'm sure the ILs will be happy, but they never seem to get very excited about anything. They love DS so much, and I have a feeling they think no other grandchildren will compare to him.

hahah thats how mine are! My dad spoils my son (5)..that is his right hand man. They are crazy about eachother and my mom, of course spoils my daughter (3) rotten! LOL...I guess the 3rd can finally belong to dh and I

I don't know how my parents will react. I will be a high risk case (uterine rupture) but I know they will be worried for me, but they love all of their grandkids and will welcome the future one with open arms.

I'm SO hoping to be in this ddc

My Mom said something is Spanish that I couldn't understand when I told her. My IL's are happy but worried for our financial stability.

I'm not telling my a-hole Dad until he figures it out on his own.

My family will have a FIT...
because of my age (40) and the ages between my kids (dd18, dd9 & bean) they aren't going to be thrilled at all.
Every single one of those were intentional babies... I don't get it? I'm healthy, why do you suppose they wouldn't be happy for us?

You keep them spaced out the same amount of years each time. Those numbers are good for my brain I can divide them into each other. (Sorry I like numbers... they make me feel safe )
