: MSG

It's just in too many things (even my veggie burgers d*mnit) and I just don't have the energy to make everything from scratch or walk all over town to find MSG or autolyzed-protien free alternatives. It's really amazing just how many products contain one of the component ingredients - even ones who proudly state "No MSG" on the label.

My other big no-no is Kraft Macaroni and Cheese with a hot dog cut up in it and a generous sprinkle of Frank's Red Hot Sauce, although I have managed to keep this to fortnightly.

Soda. It helps with the nausea. I'm also counting down the days until I can drink wine (to help with the insomnia).

Caffeine (though I'm limiting it), soft cheese. I've had a few sips of DH's wine and will allow myself an occasional half glass in the third tri.

Oh, and I certainly do not limit junk food. I don't want it that often, so if I do, eh.

have you had the annies mac and cheese? I can't even eat kraft anymore! And hebrew nationals are the best if you are eating hot dogs from what I hear.

I second the Annie's mac and cheese - it's the best!

Nah - it's something about Kraft's orange cheese that does it for me, not that I don't enjoy the Annie's. It's the same thing that makes me order my cheese steak with cheese wiz rather than real cheese. Just one of those things for me.

The Hebrew National hotdogs are great, but they still contain base ingredients of MSG - anything that contains autolyzed or hydrolyzed yeast/protien has MSG components (there are a few others but I can't remember them right now). It's the same sneaky labeling that allows a product to proclaim that it has 0g of trans-fat while its ingredients clearly say it contains PHO's.

This is why I'm not beating myself up about avoiding MSG. WE don't eat that many convenience foods, but many of the ones we do have at least one of those ingredients. Thankfully none of us has ever had a reaction to it, so I can turn a blind eye and pretend that those words on the ingredients don't mean what I know they mean.

I have either a cup* of coffee in the morning or a can of Coke at lunch most days. I love me some lunch meat sammiches - especially when I don't feel like cooking at night. And I haven't had much of a taste for alcohol, but I won't completely avoid it if I want a glass of wine or something. I asked my OB about that last time and he basically said that the "official rule" is no alcohol whatsoever since you can never know what level is "safe," but Europe isn't full of FAS babies, and those women drink lightly most every day, so it's gotta be OK.

*But who actually drinks one "cup" of coffee?!? It's always one giganto mug for me - more like three "cups" of coffee.

Soda and sugar...

I only have minimal amounts but pepsi/coke really does wonders for morning sickness.

Lately I've been craving lots of sugary things... For me that's a sign that I'm not getting enough calories so I'm allowing more than normal. I'm nursing my 17 month old so I'm really hoping to keep my supply up and if chocolate does it....well....fine by me....

I saw that very MT last night at Ant's house! It is beautiful. She told me she wore it to a parade and the babe stayed in it for hours and even slept. Amazing!
