We pay 23.5% of our takehome...that includes ALL utilities as well(inc. cable, internet, electric, water, etc).
That's not the "norm" for our area. But we rent out my parents basement (that we paid to convert into an apartment) and we will be living here probably around 5-6 more years, until DH is through with college (2 years) and we save enough to build our home next door (my parents have a double lot).
DH makes about 3700/month, and we pay 805 for rent (heat/water/garbage/etc. included), and then about 30-70 dollars for electric (depending on season- ac is electric )
DH is military, and wherever we're stationed there is a housing allowance (including utilities) for the "average" for his rank...we always shoot to go below that...here it's 1202/month, so, we're below that.
Nearly 50%. Cost of living is pretty high here, we were very lucky to get this house when we did (almost 4 years ago, before the housing market sky-rocketed).
We paid around 100k for a 900+ sq ft house in town, it was built in '72 I think.
slightly more than 50% I think. We skimp on luxuries mostly but dh and i have no medical insurance plus our main car is almost 15 years old. we just got a nicer one for out of town trips thats 20 years old. I sell my clutter when things get really tight, or we borrow from family and pay them back wghen our tax refund comes in.
