about 30%, which isn't so bad, but dh also pays childsupport so really 30% is a lot for us.

I'd say around 35% incl. insurance & taxes....but we also can walk or bike everywhere we need....grocery, health food store, library, post-office, schools and beach are all within a mile of our house. If it weren't for the skyrocketing utilities it wouldn't be so bad....

Our mortgage, taxes, and insurance are about 20% of our take home pay. In the area I live thats NOTHING most people are 50% or above. DH and I bought a smaller older home so we could have other things we wanted.

About 50%. give or take. We just refinanced because our loan was going variable this fall. Now we are fixed for 30 years instead of three and we paid off CC's and the car.

When we were renting we were paying about 65%. Not only did we live in a high rent area.. but renting a house was cut throat. It also cost a fortune to look! We were lucky that DH knew a property manager who let us rent one of his houses. So in the end it was cheaper for us to buy a house than to rent. :

Right now it's only about 10%. I don't think it's ever been higher than 25%. But, we're lucky/privileged.

Well over 50%.

BTDT with homelessness, so rent comes first and we make do with what's left over. The last two moves were because I/we had to move to less expensive areas.

We're teetering on the edge of giving up very minimal health insurance coverage that costs about half again what rent is and really doesn't do us any good because the doctors it covers are so bad we don't want to see them and there isn't enough left at the end of the month for copays anyway.

We've pretty much always had to have a living-room sleeper and my big kids are opposite gender, so they didn't want to share a room after they got to be a certain age. I've never been homeless or even a couch-surfer/shelter resident as a mama, though, so I think that's pretty good.

Interesting thread...too bad I'm 2 months behind! I felt pretty happy to realize that we are now at about 26% with mortgage & taxes. (I think our student loans are probably another 20% though, between the two of us.
