Name Question

For a girl:

Mattea (muh-TAY-uh) Ruth

Could you spell it Matthea and still pronounce it the same?

The nickname "Mattie" does NOT work with our last name. Would Thea (THAY-uh) work as a nickname for either spelling?

What do you guys think?

OOH! I love it. I used to live near San Matteo so my first thought would be without the "h", but I think it could be spelled either way.

I like Thea much better as a nickname than Mattie. Mattie sounds too masculine and also as in "doormat", but maybe that's just me.

I love to see the resurgence of Ruth lately.

I like Mattea without the H. Although without the H she might get Tea (like Tea Leoni, more than Thea).

Thanks for the input. I like it without the "h" better also. I think it will probably get mispronounced as "Ma-tee-uh" instead of "Ma-tay-uh", but I guess that's acceptable. And I love Thea as a nickname.

I like Mattea w/o the H but think that Tea (Tay-uh) would be a more natural and cuter nickname. Like Tea Leoni!
