Hi! I'm doing some research on the legal aspects of homebirth in Michigan, and I was hoping there might be some homebirth midwives here who could point me to some great websites or other resources on this topic.
I've found a reference to two court cases that ruled that midwifery is not the practice of medicine... one in 1939 and another in 1980. Anyone know where I can get more details on these court cases?
Also, is there a summary of what is/is not legal for a homebirth midwife to do at a birth, ie, no pitocin, etc. How are CNMs who choose to do homebirths limited by law: is it illegal to attend twins, VBACs, etc?
I am looking at this from a midwifery advocacy perspective, and I just want to make sure I have all my facts right. Thanks!
