They have stoneware, cast iron and enamel on steel. Does anyone know whether this brand is safe and healthy?

It is cast iron which is good and safe, and the enamel has been used in cookware for centuries.

I think using plain cast iron may be a little better because some of the iron will be absorbed into your food for your body, but I LOVE my le cruset :-)

Yes, it's lead free.

I've been wondering about this too. I've heard good things about Le Creuset, but what about other brands of enamel on cast iron? It seems like there are alot more brands on the market now that make this type of cookware.

I saw a Mario Batali one a Marshalls and another brand there too, (can't remember the name). I emailed the the company that makes the MB brand to ask them if there enamel was lead free. They did not give me a straight answer though.

The Mario Batali brand is made by Le Cruset, but I don't think the enamel on there is led free, I'm not 100% on that though. The price is much cheaper, however.

Lodge makes a series of enameled cookware. It got Fine Cooking's highest rating (over Le Cruset and Mario Batali's). AND, it's WAAAAAAAY cheaper than Le Cruset. I have (2) 5 qt. dutch ovens because we love them so much.

I wonder if it's lead free, did you ever inquire?
