This is an interesting discussion. I'm finding myself more and more at odds with the idea of outlawing things, especially in our "land of the free." I just finished the new book "Pushed" by Jennifer Block about the sick sad state of maternity care in this country. Excellent. Four stars. Right on the money. In other words, I highly recommend it.

But one thing that comes up over and over in this book is the question of why feminists have not taken up the cause of a birthing woman's rights. After all, they are all for "reproductive rights" aren't they? It turns out they only want those rights to extend to those who intend to end or prevent pregnancy. Be that as it may, most of the people interviewed for this book were pro-choice. That meant they were pro-choice for all reproductive choices, whether or not to have children, to have abortions, to have a midwife-attended homebirth, etc etc. So I'm left scratching my head at the idea that people fight so hard to outlaw something like abortion, or in the case of your discussion, porn, or even illegal drugs, and I don't know where the personal agency ends and the protection of society begins. In general, I consider myself a bit libertarian, and so I see today's politics and cringe most of the time. But I also do believe that innocents need to be protected, such as those who stumble onto pornography, or those who are aborted, or any number of other people. I don't know exactly where I'm going with this, I just wanted to chime in on these ideas, and how they apply to our gospel knowledge.
