i completely agree that we as parents have not only the right but the duty to protect our children as we see fit. there is no question in my mind in regards to that!

I agree with Maggie and Emily. I was going to say more but . . . nak is getting harder and harder as my baby gets huger and squirmier.

This is an interesting discussion. I'm finding myself more and more at odds with the idea of outlawing things, especially in our "land of the free." I just finished the new book "Pushed" by Jennifer Block about the sick sad state of maternity care in this country. Excellent. Four stars. Right on the money. In other words, I highly recommend it. But one thing that comes up over and over in this book is the question of why feminists have not taken up the cause of a birthing woman's rights. After all, they are all for "reproductive rights" aren't they? It turns out they only want those rights to extend to those who intend to end or prevent pregnancy. Be that as it may, most of the people interviewed for this book were pro-choice. That meant they were pro-choice for all reproductive choices, whether or not to have children, to have abortions, to have a midwife-attended homebirth, etc etc. So I'm left scratching my head at the idea that people fight so hard to outlaw something like abortion, or in the case of your discussion, porn, or even illegal drugs, and I don't know where the personal agency ends and the protection of society begins. In general, I consider myself a bit libertarian, and so I see today's politics and cringe most of the time. But I also do believe that innocents need to be protected, such as those who stumble onto pornography, or those who are aborted, or any number of other people. I don't know exactly where I'm going with this, I just wanted to chime in on these ideas, and how they apply to our gospel knowledge.

I don't want to outlaw people's rights, but I certainly want to defend the truth whenever the opportunity arises. And I do.

Is anyone else getting sporadic update notices in their email inboxes? I just got an update for a post 2 pages ago, after getting the notice for LTB's most recent post.

I am so confused. I clicked on "post reply" and it said, "Hello ABC's&123's it appears that you have not posted on our forums in several weeks, why not take a few moments to ask a question, help provide a solution or just engage in a conversation with another member in any one of our forums?".... I haven't posted b/c I haven't received ANY UPDATES and had to hunt down this thread!!!

I am Angie, SAHM to one perfectly delightful 6 y/o son, I have PCOS and have had 10+ miscarriages and always wanting more babies. Recently I was diagnosed with diabetes, diverticulitis, irritable bowel syndrome, hypothryroidism, hypertension..... But I'm not as old as that makes me sound. I'm (only?) 36, married to DH almost 12 years now, sealed in the Dallas temple. I live in NW Arkansas where I'm recently complaining mightily about the heat and humidity, but extremely grateful to NOT live where it's flooding so badly in Tx, OK, & Mo.

I recently send emails to all my SILs about the study saying CIO permanently damages baby's brains, and the AAP warning against basically Ezzo's Babywise crap. I have relatives who think that's a good method of "sleep training" (I swear I never heard of such a thing! THE HORROR) as well as "baby should only eat/nurse once every 3 hours"???? Unbelievable.

I may not reply much now that I'm back, because we're leaving for California this Friday and won't be abck home til July 31. I'll try to catch up when I get back though!

It's smart that you sent out that message. I think baby scheduling and CIO is one of the most damaging things we do to our tiny babies, not just emotionally but physically.

So we made the best pizza tonight for dinner. It was a Mediterranean 4-Cheese Pizza with Spinach and Garlic.

We chopped baby spinach greens in a food processor with 5 garlic cloves and then warmed them in a pan with olive oil. We spread ricotta cheese on a pizza crust (we used a Boboli because it was late and I didn't feel like making crust from scratch). We made our own ricotta by whirling cottage cheese in a food processor. It comes out the same consistancy and unless you are a super cheese-snob, you can't taste the difference We spread the spinach-garlic on top of the ricotta crumbled Feta cheese over the spinach and then covered it all with thin slices of mozzarella and topped it all off with fresh grated Parmesan cheese. We baked it until it was a garlicky-cheesy-gooey mess and then enjoyed!

It was so tasty and for all intents and purposes it was vegetarian because there was no meat in the pizza at all! We've been trying to cut back lately.

I check the thread by going to "Find All Posts By LionTigerBear" and then checking to see if there are any new posts.

I'm not sure, all I know is that a couple of years ago, the Church issued a statement saying that they are not able to keep up with the requests for reprints of patriarchal blessings and so they will no longer be sending reprints. You might ask your Bishop or Stake President if there is any recourse. Other than that, my only advise (patronizing as it may be) is to pray and ask for help finding it.

Says who? They photocopied (shrunk) and laminated them left and right at the MTC while I was there. So unless that's a new rule...

Aww, man! I haven't seen it since we moved, and we have been majorly decluttering and throwing stuff out left and right so I have a sinking feeling that it might be gone. : But I am going to pray and hope for the best, and I will contact my bishop just in case. And if I find it or get another copy I will definitely laminate it or frame it or something, that's a good idea.

2 sets of missionaries when DH converted. i never "got" it, myself. they said it was because the photocopy could smear/fudge something up and change it's meaning.
Yeah, DH has a shrunk and laminated copy of his too. Once I saw that, I actually typed mine into the computer, so I could print another if I ever needed to. I think that file has gone the way of the dinosaur in computer years, but I'll probably scan mine once my main computer gets fixed. I've never heard we aren't supposed to.

I was told by my seminary teacher, and several BYU professors that a good way to study your blessing was to photocopy it. And make several copies of it. That way you could mark one copy up and take notes on it during your study the same way you would with scriptures. When one copy is totally marked up, you can start over on a fresh copy.

Personally, I have my original locked away, where I can find it when I need to re-copy it. Then I have one copy in my scriptures and one in my journal. I really should get back to reading it and studying it more often...

My Patriarch photocopied and shrunk one for me to glue inside my scriptures.
