The biggest change for me with respect to cramps and stuff was when I make a point of getting enough calcium before my period. I never used tampons much and I used the Instead and now the Diva cup. I liked the Instead, but after childbirth it never fit right anymore. I have the lunapads, but sometimes I don't bother using them as backup.

Now - if only a method could be invented to keep cloth pads on at night!

I find that a really long and wide nighttime pad keeps them in place - for me at least. I like a 14" pad that's as wide as my panties are wide.

Of course, I'm not a really active sleeper, too.

Thanks for the tip KariM, but the problem with m is that I HATE having anything on at night.
I guess you could call it night-time naturism or something like that!
I'll even kick the bed covers off my side in Winter.
Am odd : I know.
