Baby sling fabric question

Please excuse the cross-post (from babywearing forums here).

I have made many ring and pouch-style slings, and a few wraps, at home with my machine. I have found some good bargain fabrics at Wal-Mart (occasionally) and usually at Joann's.

But, I have not found any lately and I am wanting to widen my search. I thought I'd post here and ask if anyone has some other, maybe online?, places where you like to buy ring sling fabric. I am most interested in lightweight cotton or cotton blends, and mostly for a lower price (under $10 a yard).

TIA!

is that a typo? because you could go anywhere for $10/yd. I think maybe you mean $1/yd... I was at Hobby Lobby last night and they had a couple bins of $2/yd stuff- some cute some not. Or you could try Hancock- but usually they are a little more I think. Good Luck! I have never tried ordering fabric online before.

I'd be careful doing a ring sling with one layer of calico or other thin material, I would at least double it up, or use a more sturdy fabric as the structure of the sling and the calico type fabric for an accent or something.

Thanks for your advice. I am of the opinion calico looks best on aprons, so we're safe there

Yeah, $10 does sound like a lot. I prefer the under $5 range myself. I will probably try Hancock--haven't been there for awhile. I love the feel of the batik fabric ( I like the softer feel, like shirting sort of), and I have had some great success with ring slings made from a seersucker-type striped fabric. Those usually run under $5 a yard. I was hoping someone knew of a website that sells fabric that someone has had good experience with, in sling-making. BUT, I'll keep looking in town until then.

Thanks for your response.

joanns had a huge sale last weekend that my mom went to- it was online too. She got me tons of stretch poplin/twill for slings for about a song. it was $2.79/yd or less. I would check thier website.
