What is more likely - intolerance of probiotics or peas?

Hi all - I'm hoping that some BTDT parents can help me out with this.

For the past two days, my DS's lower legs, face, and back have been covered with a mild, red rash. He also has a telltale "bullseye" around his rectum. Since we recently started solids, I am guessing this is an intolerance, but I've got two possible subjects.

We've introduced several foods so far without any sort of reaction, always waiting 4 days in between. The most recent food DS has tried is peas, his first green vegetable. It was after two days of peas that the rash showed up.

However, we also started DS on probiotics last Thursday. They are Udo's Choice brand. It says they may contain traces of milk or soy, but as he is on a dairy-based infant formula (due to my inability to BF following a breast reduction : ) that contains soybean oil, so I didn't think it would be a problem. But maybe I'm wrong?

I am going to completely take him off both the probiotics and all solids for a few days to let the symptoms pass. If you were me, which would you introduce back first? I'm leaning towards the probiotics... Also, how long should I cut out all solids in order to let this clear up?

Help! Can you tell this is my first baby?

Well, soybean oil is usually okay for soy allergic kids. My dd is allergic to soy and we only avoid soy protien and soy flour.

Peas are realted to peanuts, so they are a possibility also. Dd is also allergic to peanuts so we avoid peas.

If it were me, I'd avoid both until he's older. Why are you giving the priobotics? Could you find one with out soy or milk?

I'm giving the probiotics because I was given antibiotics during L&D, and our chiropractor recommended giving them once we started solids, to help balance his gut flora. Also, since he is FF, I thought it would also help introduce favourable cultures.

I'm sure I can find a brand without any traces of dairy or soy. This has just caught me off guard, since we have absolutely no history of food allergies in our family at all!

try lacto fermenting foods. that will give you natural probiotics, no trace of soy or milk. on the other hand it takes time. we use Simplexity probiotics in addition to the fermented foods as part of a healing diet. their probiotics say they have traces of milk and soy and i ht ink wheat, all of which my son is HIGHLY allergic too. and he is fine with them. apparently the probiotics are grown in the stuff and taken out. it must be a pretty good system b/c my boy cannot stand even minute traces of allergens. good luck!

oh, i didnt se e how old your baby is, but we didnt' feed our last solids until she was about 1 b/c of the food allergies. it worked out so much better that i would do it again. much easier on them and us!
