measuring at 28cm at 24 weeks

Hi,
I had my midwife appt. yesterday in which the midwife came to my home. My EDD is 10-18-07

I had a child previously with the pregnancy symptom of polyhydramnios. It did not present a problem during labor since my water broke while I was laying down.

I was wondering if I have that again since I am measuring so far ahead?
The baby seems to be sunny side up and so it was hard for them to palpate the baby's position. (all hands and legs) I also have an anterior placenta

I have an OB backup who I am seeing next week. If I am still measuring ahead then I wonder if he will order more tests. Since this is my 4th is it possible that my uterus is stretched and just growing more easily? Or the baby is? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
I'm a little nervous about a home birth since it is my 1st and did n't want to end up having to go to the hospital for complications. I am crossing my fingers!

I measured 4 weeks ahead with DS1. He was 8lb 4 oz at birth, which was 38 weeks. This baby is measuring 2.5 weeks ahead. I believe this baby will be around 10 lbs if 40 weeks. I would not worry to much. You maybe having a big baby or not. iF you are really worried you can have a US to determine size, but remember those can be off also.

It's always a possibility. How did you measure during your previous pregnancy?

Is this the first time this pregnancy you measured large? Has this same MW measured you every time? If you lay down and measure yourself do you come up with the same results?

I ask because once I had a backup/shadow care doc measure my fundal height from the middle of my pubic bone. He changed my due date in his chart by 2 weeks.

I'd like to think if your fundal height measurements are in the range of your first two pregnancies, that the OB wouldn't think anything of it. Most moms carrying twins measure larger than you.

I wish you the best!

measuring

About the measuring.. Last visit I measured 20 cm. This was one month ago at 5 months. So the growth is 8 cm. in one week! They did check it twice (the assistant measured) then my midwife measured and she came up with 32! So they threw out that number.

Since my OB doesn't know about my HB plans (he's my backup) I won't tell him about the measuring. I'll just see what he thinks. He has years of experience so maybe he will have some explaination.

They didn't start noticing the polyhydramnios till I was later in my pregnancy. And even then I measured ahead by only 2 weeks. It was what my midwife felt (boggy) while palpating my belly (with my 2nd child) that made her suspicious. They ordered an us and sure enough my amniotic fluid was high!

Thanks for the suggestions!
Carolyn
