Whereabouts in the UK are you? I would strongly recommend that you go and visit The Nappy Lady and get them to do you a recommendation. I used to be a demo advisor for them, and whilst they tend to do functional, basic, white, they don't stock crap. Personally, I had 4 dozen muslins for the first two months and then 20 nippaed size 2 totsbots (with motherease air-flow covers) and I think it's a bombproof combination, but ymmv. (for the boys I had terry squares. These were in the days before posh cloth nappies.)

Hi!

I'm not in the UK but I've seen diapers like the ones I like to used posted on Ebay, but coming from the UK. There are different options. You can have a diaper service that will provide the diapers and wash them for you, or you can buy some out-right and wash them yourself.

There are different basic kinds. There are AIOs which stands for All In Ones. These are a lot like disposable diapers, but you can wash and reuse them. They can velcro or snap on in the same way disposables tape on.

There are fitted diapers that are like AIOs but the covers are separate. This is what I prefer. I've found that they leak less, and if the cover wears out before the diaper, you don't have to replace both like you do with AIOs. I prefer snaps to velcro because the snaps hold up better. Velcro gets lint stuck in it which causes it to loose stickiness. Velcro also sticks together so you end up with everthing stuck together in the drier.

The other option is flat or prefold diapers. These are the more old fashioned kind. They come as a big square of fabric that you fold into a rectangle or triangle and then pin on to the baby.

Once you'ver got the diapers you need covers, unless you are using AIOs, which have the cover attached. I like the old fashioned wool soakers. These are pull up will pants, with or without legs. Wool is fabulously antibacterial, durable, and I love it. You can get covers that snap on, velcro on, or pull up, made from fleece, wool, cotton, synthetics.

It sounds like a lot, but basically it's just something absorbant on the baby's bum, and something a bit more waterproof to keep them from leaking. You can even invent your own!
