Another update- Could this have caused a nursing strike? - Page 2

Oh your poor baby. I will pray for you guys and that all the things going on with her are found and she starts healing.

What a horrible horrible feeling I bet you have about this.

Another update

Thanks to all for the well wishes. I really appreciate it! :

We had an appointment today with a new pediatrician. I got some answers, but mostly more questions.

The Dr. feels that the very low bicarbonate level she had in the ER (it was 9) along with her low blood sugar was out of whack- even taking into consideration the severe dehydration. That and the loss of muscle tone (she still doesn't have head control). It seems as though my sweet baby has an acidotic metabolic disorder. That is not a disease in itself- just a sign of something else. I am concentrating on not becomnig obsessed with the possibilties since there's nothing I can do right now. She is having more testing done on Thursday which should give us more answers.

The one very positive note is that she began breast feeding again last night Its only for short periods, but we'll take what we can get!

I saw part of a discussion between some LCs on LactNet that made me think of you:
"Liver function starts to deteriorate when intake is low for an extended period of time, and several metabolic alterations set in. It can be difficult to tell a baby who has a metabolic disorder from one who is starved at first, without specific blood tests."

So, I am very glad that your doctor is following up on this, but it could just be leftover bits from the nursing strike. So keep hope alive in your heart, and let us know what you find out!
