DS is more of a lactivist than I am!! FUNNY READ.

So, I have 2 cutsie nursing covers that I have politely worn just about everywhere...

In the first few weeks.

After that, ds would not have any more of it. Not only will he not let me cover myself starting in about late Feb., he will not allow any form of covering. Not even my hand.

If I even try it, he stops nursing, gives me this look like, "And you're trying to cover up my food- whyyy?"

If I keep trying to cover up, insisting that I need to, he will either scream or shake so hard that he almost falls off my lap, making a bigger scene than if I had just whipped out the boob without covering.

So, I am proud of myself because as of a few days ago, I am no longer even attempting to cover up. If someone tells me I need to, my response will be, "Then he can't eat and you will be responsible for his starvation."

Anyway, I just though I would share that my son is the best lactivist I have ever met.

We should all learn from him

Your DS knows what is right, good for him and good for you for having your additude.

My dd's exactly the same. I was never able to cover up because she objected or pulled the cover off - it was simply impossible! Which is why I get so annoyed at all the "Why don't women just cover up/nurse discreetly" garbage. Some babies have zero tolerance for being covered up!

Exactly! And I also wanted to add to along that thinking: Can't we just say, "My baby won't cover up, sorry"?

I just got back from a family reunion in Texas (a Conservative family reunion) and several of my relatives saw me breasfeeding without a cover and my aunt came up to me and said, "Do you need a blanket?" I just said, "He will not take a cover. It's the only way I can feed him in public. Otherwise I'll have to sit inside the rest of the day" (Turns out, she was not asking because SHE or anyone else was uncomfortable. In fact, she was asking because she wondered about my comfort of nursing without covering.)

But my point is, if people realize it's the only way you can NIP, and being that nursing in public is legal, then it's not our problem, but others' problem.

And you won't see me nursing in a bacteria-viral-STD infested bathroom. Not ever.

Your post made me so happy!!!!

To me, it doesn't matter whether you cover or not, but it's awesome that you are following your sons cues about it! Go You!

My ds is exactly the same way - I feel like he's thinking, "But Mommy, boobie is beautiful!"

My son would nurse upside down from inside a hole in a paper bag, if he had to. He doesn't care. (Joke, people, joke. Of course I don't put my kid in a bag.) But DD is very fussy about positioning and will not tolerate anything at all covering her head or even touching her head, to the point that she can't wear a hat. So covering is clearly out. I can't even nurse her in a sling that covers her head; I have to support her head with my hand or arm, or she's not having it.

I used to cover in the early weeks with a receiving blanket tucked over my shoulder, if I was in a really genuinely public place. The babies had trouble latching and were often on and off again a few times and I felt really exposed while I was helping them get latched correctly. But once they were able to latch easily, I stopped covering at all.
