Nestle and David Bowie

I'm positively disgusted and don't know what to do about it. David Bowie is promoting Vittel water, which is owned by the evil, lets-do-everything-we-can-to-stop-breastfeeding-and-have-babies-drink-our-formula-instead, recently named Most Unethical Corporation, Nestle. I need to express my outrage but don't know exactly how. I want to break all of my cd's by him or do a public burning or something, but I like his music too much to start doing that already. I thought I would send an e-mail to his official website, http://www.davidbowie.com , but I cannot get it to come up. Does it come up for anyone else? If so, could you post what his e-mail address is? I thought if a large number of us from MDC sent negative feedback to him on this ad, maybe he would withdraw and make a pro-bfing statement or something. Maybe it's wishful thinking. But one woman burning cd's in Brittany isn't going to change anything and I want to change this somehow.

yeah, an email to his website won't do much.
Just will end up at a webmasters hands.

Probably the best way is to go through his PR person..... hmmm.

let me think about how to crack this case.

Please do think about it Trabot and let me know what you think would be the best thing to do. Thanks, Tiff

Wow I am so dissapointed to here that. I and my husband have been long time hard dore fans of bowie in music and film. I will have to rack my brain to see what to do about this. Thanks for the info. BTW, what is the product called? I am a bit out of the commercial loop as I have not owned a TV for many years.

It's a bottled water called Vittel. I don't know if they have it in the states. I really like Bowie also and am so disappointed and upset about this. I read on the net that he decided to do it because he really likes Vittel water. I cannot imagine him needing the money and doing it for that. I want to do something, but really don't know what.

Does his wife have contact information? You know, a website or something? She's famous, too. E-mail her, give her something to yell at him about.

Now I'm curious - who's his wife? I feel stupid - I didn't realise Vittel was a Nestle product! We buy it every once in a while and think we are doing something good for France! :

Thank you for the Iman suggestion Amy. I had not thought about her. I found her website http://www.i-iman.com/ and sent this as an e-mail ( info@i-iman.com ) to her:

I am writing because of David Bowie's recent advertisement for Vittel water. Vittel water is owned by Nestle, which was recently awarded the title of the 'least ethical company' by Ethical Consumer Magazine. Nestle is in violation of standards for the promotion of formula more than any other company. They are part of the reason why 1.5 million children die each year from not having breastmilk (UNICEF statistic). Please encourage Bowie to not help this corporartion and to promote breastfeeding and children instead.

It may just end up in a webmaster's hand, but maybe someone will read it. I have not found a snail mail address on her site.

Thank you Trabot for finding Isolar Enterprises for me. I'm working on a nice business-like letter to send them. If anyone else wants to write them, they have a suite number: 22Q.

ECS, here's a link for Nestle products: http://www.babymilkaction.org/pages/products.html There are a few things I used to buy not knowing they were Nestle. They hardly ever seem to print it on the product.

just wanted to add...that if you really wanted to organize something and get the word out and get the attention and media... it would be a bunch of nursing moms in front of a concert holding anti-nestle posters on the night of the concert. And then others doing it in front of other bowie concerts...and more and more...

LLL moms might feel inclined to rally....

that certainly would get Mister Bowie's attention.

by the way, my understanding is he is a bit more into money than many of us might assume.

Don't buy the stock issued by David Bowie either. It's tanked anyway.

Did Iman breastfeed their child? I cannot remember.

In addition to running two successful beauty companies, Iman is actively involved in several charities, including Mother's Voices, Action Against Hunger, The Children's Defense Fund, and The All Children Foundation. She recently completed her first book, I AM IMAN (Universe, 2001), an autobiographical sketchbook of her working life that provokes questions about "the unserious business of fashion and beauty, and it's serious effect on identity".
Seems she would/should/could be interested . . .

You have to read Every bit of fine print to find it. I almost bought a bottle of chilled water while standing in line at Sam'sClub yesterday. Fortunately I turned the bottle completely around and read Both little chunks of company info.

I was really surprised to see what all is on the Nestle list!!!! Cheerios! Shredded Wheat! Ahhhhhh! I can't get them here, but they are two of the things I miss the most about the US!! AND "After Eight"! We got wonderful After Eight chocolate Bunnies from the Easter Bunny this year!

I was surprised also when I first saw the list also. You really cannot tell by the label with some things.

Iman does seem like a good way to go to get the ads pulled. The only way I could organize Bowie concert rallies would be by the internet, and I wouldn't be able to go to them. Maybe I could work with some organizations though. I'll do some searches.
