We're having baked beans tonight -- actually, although I will probably eat some, they are more for DP, who's eating a mostly vegetarian diet. I'm having a hamburger too, and we'll all have salad and corn on the cob. I think you could easily make the beans the "main dish" or protein of the meal, and serve side dishes -- a macaroni salad or potato salad, green salad, cucumber-and-tomato salad. If you do eat meat, ribs are great with beans, or BBQ pulled pork or shredded chicken sandwiches. Rice or even a rice-and-veggie pilaf would be perfect.
