More diaper talk

Thread Starter
Someone around here needs to get a hold of herself! ME! I have been lurking on the trading post, waiting to pounce on a great diaper deal. I have 11 AIO's coming in the mail (paid $95). We are using mostly prefolds so my new obsession is with covers.... my prefold stash is up to 3 1/2 dozen, 6 dappi's, 11 wonderoos, and a whole mess of assorted Fuzzibuns, Bummis, liners, covers etc. I can't stop!

What is your stash looking like?
ETA: I was at the cloth diaper store near work and they have these awesome organic prefolds that are really dark- like darker than a paper bag color and the owner said they hide stains really well. Anyone know what they are called? They are reeeaally expensive though....

I've been like that in the past when I first started cd'ing. But we never really had the money for me to go crazy. Didn't keep me from lurking 24/7. Right now my obsession is baby carrier, Beco, Ergo, the cool Hawaiian ring slings on Ebay, etc. I want one really bad. But they all cost so much. I will buy a Beco or an Ergo when I can, but that's not this week. I can make ring slings, so I can't really justify buying the one on Ebay that I love.

my stash is 100% wallypop.net ---- http://www.wallypop.net/

I have used a lot of other stuff -- both in small and med sizes.... i don't really like much else, and i hate haveing a mis-match of stuff. so i have donated evertyhing else.

have two covers that are wiggleworn, and that is the only non-wallypop stuff i have.

I use all fitted, with a rounded front (her in sotck is a square front, newer style than when i started buying in 05 but she custom makes mine rounded for me). with a cover.

I have about 18 or 20 fitted Med and 5 covers. not all bought at once. I buy a few thgings a month as we cabn afford, buysing ahead of the need.

I have just finshed buying larges for Theo to move into -- he can wear them now, though we are still wearing MEd. I plan to get the med boxed before the baby -- so i only have 2 sizes of dipaers not three stuffed int he changing table. I bought a few larges in 4 differet buys -- and yes i spend more money then you have to, but now as much as you could.....and as some do (I won't spend 20 buys for a cool cusoptm diaper on ebay or anything...).

I have 21 smalls and 4 covers., I plan to get 2 or 3 new covers (or my sis willg et them) after the baby comes and we know a gender.

I do have small unfitted diapers, 24 of them (2 12 packs) that are shaped (hour glass) but not fitted. I have some of the bed of them too -- but they are too small now, a lot smaller than the fitted Med we use. ...... i will ETA the link when my Net is moving faster than a drugges snail, i can't get the serach to find them before timing out. I will add later.

Colth is expensive at the start up -- and phhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh sooooooooooo addicting --- but now putting our second child in them....and hopeing to adopt 2 more as tots ..... it really does save money.

We use fitteds/ pfs w/ wool. I'm not going to say how much is in my stash : and I'm still adding more by way of sewing and knitting: Let's just say DH knows I have an addiction, but at least they'll be on their 2nd NB babe (we didn't CD DS as a NB, we started when he was 3.5mo)

The pfs you were looking at are probably a colorgrown organic cotton. You can see some here down the page a bit.

I guess I listed my stash in another thread already. So here it is C&P:
12 XS Very Baby AIOs
12 NB Sugar Plum Baby OC fitteds
3 NB Sugar Plum Baby OV fitteds
12 NB/ small Tykie fitteds
3 doz infant Chinese Prefolds (about 1/2 will be converted to prefitteds sometime this summer)
6 Small FBs

4 Small Kiwi Pie wool covers
1 NB/ Small Tykie wool cover
1 NB Curly Purly soaker (knit by me)
2pr NB knitted Wonderpants (knit by me)
2pr NB/ Small knitted Perfection Pants (knit by me)
1pr Small Tykie wool jersey pants
1pr Small Wonderpants (knit by me)
2pr Small Ruskovilla Nappy pants

I also have a list of about 4 small knitted covers and a few prs of wool interlock pants that I want to make. Oh, and 12 Small handmade fitteds.

The prices are pretty good and there's a good variety. Thanks for putting this up.

I've got to create a budget for myself so I can start a stash. I haven't bought a single thing yet!!

Sarah is great to work with. SHe is on vacation till the end of the month, but her trun aroud time is amazging -- Aug will be a bit slow doing two months in one -- but she is great, fast and so nice too.

I have always been happy with her prices. I see the same, more or less, other places for a lot more money -- and i have been useing her's since 05... the quality is outstandinging. DS is in Med, and has been for 11 months now -- they are holding up p[erfectly. he wore his small for 8 or 9 months and i pulled them out for the new baby and they look great, not totally brand new, of course, but still good enough i would buy at a sale and i am sure i have another 9 monhts in them for this baby and they will last on to the 3rd or 4th if we adopt one samll enough for them....

My newborn stash is 100% Fbs. We've got 24 xs, about 30 smalls, and Matt is currently in the mediums. I might branch out a little bit this time around, but the fbs work so well for us its hard to justify buying more dipes.

Which detergent do you use and what do you stuff them with?
Not sure who you're directing your question to Annika, but I'll answer. I use Charlie's soap (powder) + Calgon. The majority of my pocket diapers are stuffed with microfiber inserts.
I will anser too

for "soap" I use any of the liquid free and clears (purex or All) like i do on all our family laundry.

for the first year i used Biokleen liqiud only -- but -- it is 45 minutes to the health food store for it...i kept running out....

I use biokleen Bac Out -- order and stain remover -- in teh rinse cycle -- i put it in the machine like fabric softener in the auto release tub.

I was on hevery duty (hot) with an extra rise, so there is a rinse AFTER the bio kleen... then i run a 2nd rinse and spin on warm, which givien it another rise and spin on warm and another on cold.

I think the rinseing is the most importnat -- to be sure they are rinsed clear to prevent skin irration -- of whcih we have never had ANY.

I saok any that are dingy or discolodred in hot hot water and biokleen oxgyn blech (just int eh kitchen sink) then toss them back in teh new laundry load going in.

we have NO Stained diapers, at all, in smalls he wore 9 months, or the Med he is still wearing today at 20 months (almost).

Thx, mamas. I have really only had problems w fleece repelling before. Stains are not an issue, since I can sun them out and if they stay, they stay
But even brandnew FBs got ruined because I seemed to have washed them in the wrong detergent. I stripped them w dish detergent and scalding hot water but it didn't work. I have a few fleece pockets for this one and don't wanna ruin them again.
For my laundry I use All small and mighty free and clear and am planning to stick with it. Ds has supersensitive skin and I am glad I found a detergent we can use for it besides the super expensive Sun and earth.

I guess I'm lazy. Or cloth diaper laid back (that term usually doesn't describe me). I still have to find the diaper bin, pull out the newborn sizes, and see what I need. (Should probably do that with clothes, too, eh?) It's so nice to have a full stash of diapers; I'm not at all worried. It's just the stuff that's been through two kids (a few covers) that might need to be replaced.

We use prefolds and flat diapers here, with a combo of wool and PUL covers. I tried all sorts of fitteds and pockets with my first, and have concluded that prefolds and flats are totally awesome. No repelling, no stink, no synthetic fiber reaction rashes....and I honestly love finding new ways to fold my flats! I'm such a flat geek.

My favorite covers:

PUL - Bummis Super Whisper Wraps (velcro, not snap)
Wool - homemade recycled bum sweaters and Stacinators for day, Aristocrats for night

I can't wait to pull out those teeny, tiny preemie prefolds and newborn covers again! I know I'm not alone in thinking that teeny diapers are just adorable...

Ok lets see if I can get pictures to work here. Granted these are not my newborn diapers, those are not near as fun as these yet as I have no idea if baby is a boy or a girl! What I am hunting now is Large and Small Fitted and Longies for this winter. My son has mostly BP and they are too bulky under most cloths.
Wool Snap Dragon Set (Toby needs Snaps! LOL)

I think they're Tiny Bird Organics Prefolds...try this link and scroll down a little...are these the ones you're talking about?

And now onto the stash!
We're doing mostly PFs this time around (for me,and dh if he feels like it, with some AIOs for the grandparents and the occasional sitter). So far I have:
24 preemie unbleached Indian PFs
36 infant unbleached Indian PFs
5 small BSWW
a handful of NB and Small handknit soakers
a handful of bum sweaters/longies I made
6 small Bumkins AIOs
6 small BG AIOs

I should really check soon and start washing/drying since the PFs are unbleached. I'll probably make a bunch of fitteds and maybe some wool wraps too.

I also just got a super deal on some flats for ds, so if I like those I might use them for the new baby too. We're going on a paddling trip and I needed some super quick drying dipes...yes, I will be going on a canoe/camping trip while 7 months pg and still trying to CD my son! We'll have sposies for backup or in case it rains the whole time. I'll let you know how it goes!

I am thinking about getting some of the Bummis Original covers (the nylon ones) since they'll be quick drying...does anyone have experience with these? I've read some reviews that say they wick around the legs...

Do you mean the pull-ons? Because I have a couple of Bummis pull-ons, and they work great. No wicking.
