Edited to put my train wreck of a family back under a rock where they belong!

Fortunately MIL had a wonderful reaction when dh told her. Sometimes, she can be really great.

They'll get over it and move on. Just focus on yourself and that new baby growing more and more everyday.

I haven't told my family which is why I haven't had a horrible reaction......yet. I didn't get to read before you edited so I'm not sure what happened, but I'm certain I will be able to write my own fun family story when I decide to tell!

I'll be dropping some stories in here eventually as well.

dropping by from the Feb ddc. I didn't get to read your post before you edited it.. but I wanted to give you hugs and let you know that I haven't told my family at all this time. They are so negative previous times that I've cut them out totally now. And I'm happy about that decision. But I've been there and I know how much it can suck when relatives are insensitive and downright rude.

Thanks all. Honestly, my family kind of embarrasses me, because of the . . . really selfish, thoughtless things they do, not even realizing they're doing anything wrong.

I needed to do this though, and give my mom a chance, because I couldn't decide to not tell her pre-emptively, kwim? Even though I had a feeling she'd have a really negative reaction, I had to give her a chance, and since she totally blew it, I can just skip it next time, or do something really impersonal like email and remind them that we're only interested in hearing positive things.

FWIW, my mom yelled "NOOOOOOO, <gasp> Oh Julia, NOOOOOOOO!" when I told her, even though I prefaced it by saying I had fantastic news. So not exactly an enthusiastic reaction to the news that we're having our second. But I'm over it now; it just goes in the file of other thoughtless things they've done. And ultimately, all of these stories go in the joke file.

I'm sorry your mom had such an awful reaction to such wonderful news. I don't think people like that realize how much that hurts. We are telling my grandmother tomorrow and she will probably have a VERY similar reaction. She is absolutely against ANYONE ever having a third child. She told me after my last that I should go ahead and get rid of all the tiny baby stuff since this would be our last since we have two. (because no one ever has more than 2, right? @@) And I even told her then that we were planning on having a number 3. And she said I wish you wouldn't, no one should ever have more than 2. So, I can just see her reaction tomorrow. Like you, I just don't want to hear the negativity about something I am ecstatic about. LOL, and she had 4 kids!
