Birth Pool Service?

Any of you doulas or midwives sell or rent birth pools? I would like to know more about this, as right now in my city, we don't have anyone doing that.

What are the pro's and con's, and is this a business which brings in a little money, or alot. Give me all your opinions.

Thanks,
Jyotsna

I don't sell or rent pools, as most of my clients use the inflatable kiddie pools. I'd probably check with the midwives in your area to see what they would use.

Something that is used around here a lot is big plastic cow troughs that can be bought at Fleet Farm for about $50. I think they are recommended because one of the local midwives had an inflatable tub burst and had to catch a baby in a flood So anyhow, that is one more option if you wanted something with harder sides.

ETA: I wonder if women would be interested in renting a cow trough? Or does it just sound too goofy? It certainly seems like an affordable way to do things. I would rent a cow trough for a decent price as buying one would seem silly if I was only going to birth in it and I don't live on a farm.... hmmm...

There is a couple here who rents the AquaDoulas. For about $275 they bring it out about a week before the EDD and completely set it up. The day after the birth they come out and clean it out and take it away.

Can't tell you the pros/cons of actually doing that as a business but I'm pretty sure a couple of the midwives recommend them to clients.
