IS there a double stroller 45+ lbs dd?

so i have a very large (healthy!!!) almost 4 year old.
and i am going to want a stroller to put her and new baby in (when he is over 6 months) b/c i like to take long walks to the library and grocery store...she will get tired on way home and we will have to haul stuff.

but i can not find anything that will hold two children, one of which is over 45 lbs, which she ALREADY is.

anyone???

Does the sit and stand hold that much weight? This will also be less of a commitment to siting. she will be able tyo get up and walk around stuff without yuo haveing to fuss a lot with getting her in and out.

Maybe sling the baby and have the preschooler walk?

I had a double baby jogger that held that much weight easily. It's pretty wide but I was able to just fit everywhere I needed to go. Probably wouldn't work if you had to go places with narrow aisles though.

hey lilyka, i have not "seen" you in a while, i guess i have been hanging out elsewhere!
but i would love to find a sit and stand, but each one says that max weight per child is 45lbs.
and since that is what she is NOW, i do not want to invest in it.
our stroller we have had since dd was a baby said the same thing, max of 45 lbs, we still use it for her and i do not see it getting ready to break or anything, but again, i do not think it wise to buy something new that she is already passes the rec. weight for.

sharlla, as far as slinging the baby and having the toddler walk, i am talking about taking some weekly major walks...hours of errands and fun stuff (the park, library, PO, co-op, thrift store, etc) we will all be getting tired as it is.
i want the option of the 2 kids being able to ride while i push them, esp on the way home. (most of the time i will keep babe in the sling, it is just i want this option of two in the stroller)

marybethorama, do you know the name of your stroller????

thanks and please keep the info comin'

I'm all about this stroller.

We also do lots of walking and I just can't sling the babe for that long, plus expecting the 3 yo to walk that far is too much. I haven't purchased this yet, but I seriously think I'm going to order it this weekend.

I would think any jogging stroller would have a higher weight limit to it. Ours was 80-100 I think. it was a higher end KoolStop but any nice jogging stroller i going to have a prettty high weight limit. and since it sounds like you are really going to be putting some miles on it that may just be a hands down better option. Be sure to find with regular bike wheels or at least standard bike tires on it. You will get a lot longer use out of it.

Or you could go with a bike trailer/stroller option. ours (burley delight) has a 100 pound total weight limit. Its is pretty easy to push around as a stroller, has tons of storage space and also gives you the option of biking instead of walking. Oh and another added bonus over a reguar stroller is it has weather protection. It can be open, screened in or closed off from the elements all together. Just be sure to get a nice one with a good stroller option.

This one on the Graco website goes up to 50 lbs (though that's not giving you much room to grow):

I think most of the strollers descriptions probably say that they can only hold up to 40 lbs, but I'd bet bigger kids would be okay in them too. Of course, I understand your hesitation to buy one that specifically says only 40 lbs.

I totally get your desire for a stroller for long walks. I love to take long walks (miles and miles) with my two kiddos, and they wouldn't be able to go as quickly as I sometimes need to go, or as far. We, of course, take them on walks where they walk too, and they walk on part of our really long walks, but we like to walk all over the place, and often the stroller is an important part of that because adults simply can walk wayyyyyy farther than a 4 year old and a 2 year old.

Also, I'd check on craigslist, freecycle, and thrift shops and garage sales and look for a used one for cheap. We bought a Graco DuoGlider for $20 last year, and it's great! If you buy it that cheap, you don't mind if you have an above-the-weight-limit kid sitting in it because if it breaks, that's okay. (I don't think the weight-limit is a safety thing.)

thanks i was begining to wonder if i sounded like an "i don't touch my baby" kind of momma....
my dd lived in the sling, except when she reached 20 lbs about 6 months of age *YES!!!*** and i would walk the 2 miles to the grocery store and shop and then walk the 2 miles back....
even IF i wanted to always carry new baby while i do these kinds of trips (which we love, i love to be PART of my town) i want to have a doubler stroller that my 2 kids can ride in at once.

momatoablessing,
did you notice that that sit n stand had a 45 lb weight limit PER child?
my dd i already almost past that and i just wanted point that out to you, before you order it for yourself, i do not know how big your 3 yr old is....

I have a few options for you!
What does your budget look like?

I have a 5 YO and a 13 month old. When the 5YO was diagnosed with arthritis, we had to buy a double stroller. We ended up with a BOB Revolution Duallie, with a 100lb total limit (no individual limit)
If you want something smaller, check out the Maclaren Rally Twin, Twin techno or Twin Triumph. Albee baby has some good deals, as does Ebay (last year's model) http://www.albeebaby.com/strolfrommac.html and they have a 55lb limit per seat.
The Phil and Ted's strollers have a 55lb limit in the main seat and a 33lb limit on the second seat. This would be an awesome stroller for you because when the 4YO doesn't want to ride anymore, it converts to a single.
A Mountain Buggy is spendy but has a 120lb limit.

I would advise against the Graco that was posted. While the wt. limit is 50lbs, the seat is freaking short and according to DS, uncomfortable. And it's a bear to push. You sound like you walk as much as me so in your situation, I wouldn't skimp on the stroller.

I have the Joovy brand version of the sit and stand. My dd is easily 45+lbs now. I still put her in it and I don't see the stroller looking like it is struggling to hold her kwim? I LOVE that she can hop in and out so easily. We take it on shopping trips.

I also have a bike trailer that converts to a stoller easily. It does hold two kids up to 100lbs total. I would use that one for long walks, but the older child can't get in and out on their own. Also, the instructions that came with it said that they had to be 1year old, so that is something to consider. Ours is by "Instep", not sure if "Burley" has different requirments.

Yep, I did. Thanks though! My (almost) 3 yo is only 34 lbs and we'll be TTC #3 within the next 6 months, so hopefully this stroller will take us through all 3 kids.

I really like my swivel wheel joggers. I have a Mountain Buggy Single that I used for DS1 for long walks and I got a Valco Twin Trimode for taking them both on those walks. The Mountain Buggy Double has a higher weight limit.

They are pricey though. Worth every penny if you have to use them a lot as they push over just about every bump like nothing at all (I used mine on a dirt trail, uphill, etc. and it's effortless).

There were some other less expensive double joggers on this site too that had adequate weight limits

Love my Bob Dualie Revolution for walking. The new ones look sharp and you can now get it with smaller back wheels. I've seen lots of people using them with a newborn and an older child. I think the Phil and Teds is a good solution too.

We have this stroller. Although it says 'up to 40 inches', ds was 42" when we got the thing and that was about a year ago now. It doesn't seem to be straining under the weight and works really well for us.

We have a Graco Duo that I got off Freecycle, and my almost 4 year old is 45 pounds now. It shows no signs of being in stress with her in it. In fact, my older daughter can ride in it with no problem.

Safety and stuff... I can understand wanting to get one rated for higher... but I've honestly had no problems using strollers. Its the wheels that get stressed out with more weight, and you can see when thats happening. (for instance, daddy can not sit in the stroller. )

I would look at ride-behind boards like this http://dmart2.stores.yahoo.net/stac.html Some give a 55 pound weight limit, which should last you a while since they grow so slowly at this age.
