UP with Midwife?

I'd like to do my own prenatal care but would still like to have a midwife attend the birth.

Does anyone know if this is even possible? Should I start looking for a midwife now even though I don't want prenatal appts?

Ideally I would like to have a few meetings with my midwife throughout the pregnancy to discuss birth prefrences, ect. but I want absolutely no tests or vag exams.

Anyone have experience with this? Any advice is welcome!
TIA

I did a UP with my midwife and she was fantastic about it. She was also very hands off at my birth and it pretty much ended up like a UC but with a midwife present. It was great, and I really respect and admire her trust in pregnancy and birth. I hope you can find a provider like mine.

I'm doing something similar, but I don't think of it as UP or UC, since I am hiring a MW. Really the labels aren't so important, it's about getting the care and birth that's right for us. I've found a MW who will work with me without doing a lot of stuff. I may consult with her if something comes up and I have a question but I don't want routine testing and exams. There are Midwives out there that'll work with a mom this way and don't feel they need to be in control of the situation.

Good Luck!

Thanks so much! I'm really encouraged to hear that it's possible. Another question I have is if your midwife was a CNMW or Direct-entry midwife?

In general I think you'd be more likely to find a DEM than a CNM to work with you in that kind of hands off way. The one I've found is a CNM, but that has to do with the way liscensing works in our state. She's more like a DEM, but wanted to be legal so got the extra degrees.
